I would love to have the family guy, simpsons and futurama on blu. That way I can watch an entire season without having to change discs.

Default Depends

Are we assuming that the programs are HD sourced?

It seems to me rather silly to purchase shows that were shot standard def on a high def disc. If such a thing is available?

You might only watch it once but where I live everyone watches them sooner or later so a matter of being used isnt a question. I would say like 99% of shows would be awesome in HD, some more than others (BSG, LOST, Heroes) etc.

Hardly any shows are in HD, only the new US ones. And even so, it's either 720p or 1080i... why no TV shows in 1080p?

I suppose if it was a show in 1080i, with preofessionally, carefully done de-interlacing, and/or remastered very well from 480.. maybe it's worth it, but is there really that much of an incentive for the studio to do a good job? Why not just make a rush job of it, advertise and sell it as remastered for 1080p and rake in the bucks without caring about the consumer.

The only area I think could be remastered perfectly is cartoons. You can blow up a cartoon frame to way bigger than it's origonaly size, trace the outlines, fill in the colors and there you have it just as good as if the origonal were HD. That's why I wold just LOVE the Simpsons and Futurama on blu-ray! But live-action shows, I'm not entirely convinced that beyond de-interlacing and upscalling, anything much can be done.

i believe most of the tv shows are film or hidef cameras shooting 1080p. the only reason you get a tv signal that is 1080i or 720p is because they have to compress the crap out of it to get it across the coax lines. just like watching hd movies on hbo, they're broadcast in 1080i because thats the most cable/satellite can handle well. i haven't bought any tv shows on blu yet, but when smallville gets here i will check.

and cartoons look good in sd upconverted i doubt there'd be THAT much of a noticeable difference. now with other animation types like anime and cg there is the potential for awesome looking blu transfers. but i watched the simpsons, futurama, and the spongebob movie and they all look great upconverted.

Because ATSC was defined before there was a 1080p, and it requires double the bandwidth of 1080i.

I own Smallville 5th Season on High Definition and will get Smallville 6th season on Blu-ray when I want to.

I have no plan to pruchase any shows on SD expect CSI Franchise.
CSI: NY 3rd Season, CSI: 7th Season, CSI: Miami 5th Season are expecting to be lastest addition to my collection. I own all CSI: Franchise in my SD collection. I do watch it more than 1 times.

CSI: franchise does run in Widescreen format last few seasons. It will look great in HD for these CSI series, mostly CSI: Miami.

Weeds does look great, wouldn't think of it as being something to buy on BD but I love the show and glad I got it on BD.

For the price they offered it at, it was worth the money.

Although I'd hardly use "Weeds" as a shining example:

1) Broadcast rerun syndication is dead.
2) Some people will own season boxsets.
3) Since 2004-5, most cable and broadcast network shows have been in HD widescreen.
4) DVD is passing as the favored customer format in favor of Blu-ray.

Therefore,
5) TV sets on Blu-ray are a necessary fact. End of thread.

Broadcast rerun syndication is still bringing in a lot of cash to this day.

Only for hourlong dramas. Half hour comedy shows do just fine

Which has been shown to have no effect on viewership of reruns

Longer than that. 2000

Not even close. We're 5 years even from equilibrium, minimum.

I'd love to have all my favorite TV shows on Blu-ray. I won't settle for anything less now. I'm spoiled.

Lost, 24, Prison Break...those are what I'm picking up. Hell Lost is as cinematic as most movies and looks beautiful in HD. It helps shooting in Hawaii.
