That TV is just pulled out of the box and set on the Stand. None of the settings are messed with. I have seen the tv and it isnt the cables or anything like that. It is the settings that it is set on. That tv is too advanced for movies because it can do faster refresh rates.

I just purchased the 52 inch XBR4 and I love it. Here is a review that I saw today on CNET on the 47 inch XBR4. They say it is the best LCD to date.

For 1080P/24 to be refreshed correctly at multiplies of the original frame on the Sony’s you must turn off Motion Enhancer. Turning on Motion Enhancer at the HDMI input where the 1080P/24 BLU-RAY or HD-DVD player is connected will result in interpolation of new frames instead of repeating each frame multiply times.

omg just get a new monster 1000 cabel from cc it has the same specs as the 1200 at the bb and is less in price it offers 120hz certification, stop being cheap and buying lowerend cables for your sony xbr it makes no sense.

If you are going to judge a Sony TV based on its displayed units... GO TO A SONY STORE!!! They are guaranteed to have it setup properly. Otherwise, it has probably been setup by some 15 yr old pimpled part-time high school employee that thinks he knows what he's doing. Trust me, I've seen Sony units displayed in almost every major retailer chain and they never do Sony TVs justice like they do in an ACTUAL SONY STORE.

Sorry to say buy your assumptions on the way the motion enhancer mechanism works are incorrect. Motion Enhancer will work on either 24p or 60p as well off the air 30i (60i if you must) signals. this is done by creating new frames based on the movement of the existing frames. These frames are then inserted at the proper space and time on the cadence. In basic terms the engine will create 2 frames for 60hz signals and 4 frames for 24p if the consumer wishes to engage the enhancer on. Turning off Motion Enhancer completely disables this process and the tv becomes a 60hz television with the regular 2:3 pulldown process. The standard setting on Motion Enhancer is a selective process whereby the cadence reported by Cinemotion(2:3 processor)will activate/deactivate the effect based on content. This will cause almost non existing halo effect as described on the thread since less data from the source is required for this process.
I hope this clears some of the confusion and we can all go back to our homes and enjoy our televisions as they are intended to be. By the way, the TV is also capable of displaying sources at their native 24p rate (AKA BD) through HDMI. IF you choose "Direct" or Native mode on the BD Player the TV will display these images at their native frame rate if desired. Under these circumstances please feel free to deactivate Motion Enhancer or press "theater mode" onthe remote and the TV will become a 24P monitor for the respective source. |

Doesn't the xbr 5 have a black bezel compared to the dark gray of the xbr4? I thought it also had a little longer warranty as well. Correct me if I'm wrong.

i work for bb and we have to have a motion setting on high for the tvs and thats what does it. if you turn it off, it is an amazing tv but i do know exactly what you guys are talking about. its not an issue with the tv, its a motion flow setting on the tv thats set to high. it needs to be turned off.

My wife and I stopped in at the local Sony Store today. I wanted to show my wife the XBR4 and 5's and they did not disappoint.
She really enjoyed seeing Casino Royale on our Sony 1080i via the PS3 but she was beside herself with the clarity of the XBR4 or 5 and Blu Ray set ups with Casino Royale running on both in store. <huffs fingernails> I'm guessing my real life product placement while using a day at the mall as a ruse will do wonders down the road when daddy wants to do a little HT upgrading. ![]() |
