I still buy a ton of films on DVD, mainly due to the fact that most of the things that interest me aren't available on Blu-ray. Out of the last six films I've bought, only 2 were available on Blu-ray, and that would probably be a good indicator of how the general DVD/Blu-ray ratio for me (around 1/3 of the films I buy are on blu).

of course, there are things that will NEVER be released on blu-ray....

There's still films/shows that have yet to be released on DVD...

As I said in this thread:

When I went HD in mid-December, I upgraded a lot of my DVDs to Blu and bought quite a few movies on Blu that I didn't already own (58 in 4 months may seem little to some, but for a student who has to pay rent and makes roughly 200 bucks a week, it's major). I told myself I'd never buy DVDs again.

But recently there were lots of movies I felt like watching that I knew would never get the Blu treatment and it annoyed me to restrain myself from buying them just because they were SD and not HD. I'm a movie buff before being an HD buff so the pain grew quite strong.

And then I gave in and bought Tabu and La Gueule ouverte from Masters of Cinema. Then I stopped for a month or two, bought more Blus and quickly faced the same dilemma. I bought the BFI Naruse set. And now I just ordered, again from Masters of Cinema, Assassination, Grey Gardens and Twenty-Four Eyes. And I'm one click away from ordering the Lang Indian Epic.

I think that if you're a real MOVIE fan, and not just a HD fiend, then you can't stop buying DVDs. You can slow down and you can buy more carefully, but some gems just demand to be owned and watched over and over even though they'll very likely never get a Blu release.

Disgusting? You obviously don't know much, to make such idiotic comment.

Japanese anime series have been remastered to their highest quality on DVD and probably won't ever be released on Blu-ray.

A brilliant example is the original Dragon Ball Dragon Boxes, the quality is superb.

The FUNimation upscaled Blu-rays (DBZK is a direct copy of the DBK JPN) are okay, but nowhere near as good as the Japanese.

Instead of bs'ing around, NDF, keep quiet so no one will have to read your ignorant comments.

Completely pathetic.

Yes, for anime series and other types.

If it's available on Blu-ray it'll be BD, if not it'll be DVD.

Dont get me wrong if a Bluray i really want comes out without a slip that i dont already own on dvd i will buy it, but theres hardly any i want that dont contain slips, and its not like they are hard to get hold of with slips anyways bar the odd few.

Everyone wants a neat collection, but to avoid excellent titles, such as Wall-E, to keep is looking perfect is just stupid. At the end of the day it's the movie that counts, not the packaging or extras, so avoiding anything that's slipless has no logic.

The best way to keep it neat and still have slipless Blu-rays is to keep slipless and slipped titles seperately.

In my opinion slips are best off being thrown straight in the bin. If I still had them I'd have happily given you the Toy Story ones your after.

I'll only get DVDs if they're really cheap (below £5) or if I can't get them on Blu.

I do. There's nowt wrong with DVD IMO. I don't really go over the £4 mark though unless it's a rare one, not available on blu-ray or I REALLY want it.

For me to buy DVDs these days they have to be very cheap, and fall into the category of a film I want but not enough to pay the extra for the blu.
TV seasons though are a different story, many won't make it to blu for years to come, if at all.

I still buy DVDs, don't like to spend more than a couple of pound, but will do if it isn't available on blu-ray. If I do get one that is, then i'll simply sell it. People who refuse to buy DVDs now are missing out, only an idiot would do such a thing.

well - for all new major feature film releases, will get Blu

but for older TV shows, which I love getting - they are only available on DVD anyway, and they are just fine as Standard Edition.
still want to get some remaining seasons of Fraiser.
and get the likes of Family Guy on DVD only.
With Family Guy - it looks good on DVD anyway. not too sure what an upgrade onto BD would do for it.

also - any cheap foreign language movies, I tend to just get on DVD. got some great movies for only 2 quid recenetly.

I'm pretty much the same. I refuse to buy TV box sets on Blu because they are so much more expensive compared to their DVD counter parts (even though it seems that they're coming down in price).

So the vast amount of my DVD's are TV sets.

Regarding the Slipcovers, all mine go in the bin!

I would be inclined to agree mainly, but my mate lent me True Blood Season 1 on BD - and the PQ was excellent !!! and i really want to get that and season 2 and 3 on BD - but they are SO expensive i will never be able to get them.
also want Dollhouse on BD. and not sure why!! i am sure their DVD counterparts are just as good. maybe one day i will win some money on the lottery and be able to get them all!!
