They recommend between 17-18 and I have mine set on the highend at 18. The music sounds alot more punchier with the heavier setting even at 17.5 where I had it before amazing! A few upgrades I have is a brass weight clamp and an anti static mat which replaced the stock felt mat. I really want to get a speedbox next. And like callas01 mentioned the Pro-ject Debut and MH 2.2 are very interchangeable that they recommend their speedbox.
I don't use the dancing banana often, but I felt it was truly appropriate for my reply. I'm so happy to hear that you are pleased with your purchase and enjoying this great medium once again.

The Speedbox is a very nice product, and their top-of-the line version has been recommended for use with higher-end TT's as well by several dealers that I know.

Enjoy the "black gold" my friend!

According Needle Doctor it's also compatible with the MMF-2.2.

Pro-Ject turntables sound great out of the box, but the Speed Box II offers an affordable and effective upgrade if you're looking to get a little more from your deck. First off, it allows you to switch between speeds with the push of a button, but most importantly, it reduces the speed variance of the record platter. This amounts to much more controlled and natural bass, heightened clarity through the mids , and tighter highs. The Pro-Ject Debut, Xpression, and RM5-SE all benefit tremendously from this upgrade.

A few conditions...

Works only with turntables that use the 16V/AC power supply by Pro-Ject

Also compatible with the Music Hall MMF2.2, MMF5.1, & MMF5.1SE

Models it will NOT work with: RM6.1, Xtension

78rpm is not available for the Xperience, PerspeX, RM9.1 and RM10

I actually bought my Pro-Ject Debut from the Needle Doctor, I only wish I had got the cartridge upgrade at the time.... but oh-well. I do want to switch out the current platter to the Acryl-it platter, and then add a new cartridge down the line. Long term plan will be to add a phono pre-amp and a speed box, but that will be once im closer to getting an IA. That won't be for a while.

What mat did you upgrade to?
This one on Amazon is only $10. Its a cheap and relatively effective upgrade. It really does improve the noise reduction common with vinyl records. The only pops I get is an occasional dust drag or bump. I would also like to get the acrylic platter but its too expensive right now since I just bought all my gear recently.

I hear you... Im about to drop $800 on a center channel in a month or two.... so getting anything right now is not really on the priority list.

my thought was that getting one for cheap would hold off wanting the acryl-it platter for a little bit.

EDIT:: Im bugged by a small warp in the aluminum platter on my TT.

While it may seem that upgrading the MDF platter to an acrylic one is a good idea, it only has a benefit if there is an audible upgrade in sound. Most people could never tell the difference between the two, so think before you buy. Please remember I'm speaking about entry-level TT's only in this scenario.

My personal preference would be to upgrade the cartridge and add the Speedbox.

always have been there.... as the TT is spinning, one little section of the aluminum platter raises up, causing the Tonearm and Cartridge to roll with it. It doesn't cause skipping or skating or anything, it tracks just fine tho.

For $129.00 I don't personally think that the improvement in sound definition on an entry-level TT is worth it. By adding this your TT is now worth almost 30% more...are you going to get 30% improvement in sound quality? My answer would be no.

Regarding the platter, I would call whomever you bought it from and demand a replacement, if it's under warrenty.

Have you checked to see if the spindle is 100% vertical? If it's slightly off, it could cause the platter to vary from a perfect horizontal turn.

So there should be no variance in the platter spin at all? Because I have noticed a wobble on my table that I thought was normal. Doesn't effect playback either.

exactly, I thought it was normal.. I just figured it was the aluminum not being 100% uniform. So I figured the upgraded platter might fix it, and offer better sound at the same time,

The only way to be sure is to use a carpenters level. Also note that some vinyl comes warped even straight from the factory.

Also, check the level of the TT itself.

Back to front
Side to side
And at 45 degrees.

Do not level with an LP on it.
