I'm not sure if it counts as 'obscure', but I LOVE Super Dodge Ball

Other 'obscure' games I like:

Guerilla War (NES)
Stinger (NES)
Ogre Battle (SNES)
Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Calibur (N64)
Pilotwings 64 (N64)
Gladius (PS2)
Tropico (PC)
Tropico 3 (PC)
Endless Ocean (Wii)

Advent Rising on Xbox. It was very glitchy, but was fun and had a good story. It was supposed to be a trilogy but the company went bankrupt and as far as I know no one bought the rights.

Super Dodge Ball is definitely not obscure, at least by the definition I'm using here. There's probably a touch of obscurity due to its age and all the youngsters of this gaming generation not having experienced it, like so many NES (and earlier) games, but not obscure in the strictest definition. That game was so fun, by the way. I played that one for many, many hours. It's one of the ones that didn't stand the test of time for my preferences, though, unfortunately. I tried to play it recently and just couldn't get into it like I once could; probably because I'm 33 now and played it when I was like 13.

How about a shout-out for Uniracers? (SNES) It seems like whenever I bring up that game, people never know what I'm talking about. We played that a ton back in the day, too. Nothing like SFII, but of course that one is definitely not obscure.

With Super Dodge Ball, I find a lot of people I talk to in person have never heard of it, but on the internet, it has quite the following That is why it can be considered obscure in some circles. Fun game, and I still play it occasionally (on the Wii's VC)

I thought this game was pretty good. Very glitchy like you said. I rented it but never completed, now I am thinking I need to find a copy and complete it.

Anyone into survival horror?

Siren for the PS2 was great and seemed to be an underrated game. It was remade for the PS3, which is an excellent version - highly recommended.

Also, Rob hit it right on the head with a bunch of Arcade only entries. Some of these games never saw releases or any other iterations other than their original form in an arcade.

Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow over Mystara is one of my favorites. Plenty of others that fit the obscure bill simply because if your arcade didn't have them and before the internet was prevalent - how would you know about them? I've had a bunch of fun going through MAME and trying as many as I could click on.

JUMPING FLASH

that was a great game, and the sequels were not bad either. One of my favorite old school ps1 games.

Tokyo extreme racer was awesome as well

Mine would be

X-com Ufo Defense ps1/pc
River City Ransom Nes
E.V.O. search for eden SNES

None of these were huge and most the time people have never heard of them but they were all great games in their day and still a blast to play today.

Nice! That one was fairly big within my circle of friends back in the day, but I know what you mean. I'll agree to consider it semi-obscure.

Solid obscure titles right there!

Here's another one that just came to mind for me:

3D World Runner!

I couldn't remember the title at first. I found the above YouTube video by typing "3d runner game nes" in a Google search, and that was the first hit...and that was the game I wanted to find.

Oh man, World Runner was so hard! I remember buying it thinking it was somehow like Space Harrier! Still it was fun, but so hard. I can hear the music now without even watching that video.

Jumping Flash is awesome, but I definitely would not call it old school. After all, it came after the advent of 3D graphics. Asteroids is old school. Jumping Flash is only from a couple of generations ago.

lol old school "ps1", it was on the release day demo disc that had jumping flash and espn xtreme games among a couple others. It also came in one of those fuggly old big cases, which qualifies as old school on the ps1.

Agree not oldschool in general although for me that falls in the atari generation more then the arcade gen.... winter olympics and frogger ftw

Oh, I forgot to mention Headhunter on Dreamcast. For Dreamcast, Headhunter was released only in Europe, and it was eventually released on PS2 in both the US and Europe. I bought a European copy off Ebay in order to play it.

It is a great Metal Gear Solid-ish game, with great stealth sequences. I love it! Oh, and you ride motorcycles through the city from location to location. The motorcycle riding alone was worth getting the game. The sequel, Headhunter: Redemption, was released on PS2 and I think XBox. It removed motorcycles, and sales wise did worse than the first game.

My favorite generally-hated game?

Goldeneye: Rogue Agent (GC)

I suppose I can understand why people hate it--but I've had all kinds of fun playing it.
