Interesting to see this thread come back to life. I've recently started watching Buffy again from the beginning on Netflix, and there were a lot of episodes I'd missed over the years. I'll jump into Angel when I've finished with Buffy.

I prefer Buffy well over Angel mainly for the high school years. Great storytelling and character development all the way. The addition of Spike made it even better.
I like Angel well enough and Cordelia continuing on there was a great move for her character, but I felt that her exit from the show was handled badly as was her last episode. And as always Spike was another great choice. He really should have gotten his own show out of this. That would have been fun. |

Angel for me. I love the main cast more than many of the characters on Buffy, and it has fewer seasons, so less wasted opportunities (Buffy has at least three bad seasons, starting with the snore-bore that is season four). I'm in the middle of my Angel re-watch, and it's hard to quit binging the episodes once they get into the Angelus arc. Good stuff.

Watch all of Angel before deciding if you like it better than Buffy. Most of the seasons were pretty good, but Season 3 didn't land for me.
Vincent Kartheiser is a fine actor and went on to do some great things, but his "Connor" was annoying AF. That said, the end-arc of Season 5 was some quality drama and Andy Hallett gave Lorne an amazing amount of pathos and resignation. |
