Except that there are still two SKU's: One for the discs in Blu-ray packaging and one for the discs in DVD packaging. Unless you have a different definition of SKU.

I think he's referring to the studios wanting everyone to purchase, ultimately, the same thing. Studios are having to force people into transitioning into blu-ray since they aren't doing it as willingly as people did to dvd. It's a separate SKU as far as orders go, but what they actually buy within the package is 100% the same, and can be measured as such.

Crappy decision to do this. Since I'm a fan of the show and louie ck, I guess I will just overlook it.

Umm, what's the opposite of watered down?? This feels like a genuine concentrated shot of CK's sensibility (which it should, complete creative control and demanding hands off from FX). It's great. You should love it.

And yeah, I want Lucky Louie on Blu too, so the flipper dilemma is agony (if this set doesn't sell well I can't see Lucky Louie getting a released, but the flipper format - grr)

I'm another big C.K. fan, and I don't like many standups. Lucky Louie was great and I miss it. This show is a little variable, especially the first episode. But man, when it gets good, it is great.

The Bully episode is just amazing, as good as just about any short film I've ever seen.

I too am torn about this show, since I would love to get it, but also hate flippers. I'm sure I'll end up with it eventually.

Which sucks, because I have been lending my DVD copy of movies out to friends and family who don't have BD players. Just stick it in a disc envelope and send it on their way.

No, it's not a watered down version of Lucky Louie. The new show is completely different. It's little vignettes (like short films) instead of a sitcom model. The episodes feel a lot like little independent films. It's actually one of the most unique comedies on TV. However, IMO it's not always funny. Lucky Louie was funnier to me, but this show makes up the lack of humor (in some places) by exploring concepts like religion, philosophy, psychology, etc in interesting ways. Read that DVD Talk review, it seems to explain it pretty well.

I am glad to read that there is a half hour of of deleted scenes and 11 commentaries. Was waiting to make a decision based on bonus content, now I know a purchase is warranted. I don't care about flippers, I prefer normal discs with artwork but it's not a deal-breaker. I do wish this show had been shot on film, though. The antiseptic look of the RED just doesn't have the personality of good ole celluloid.

Anyone seen how much this is at Best Buy? Wondering if it is $25 there and if I could get it for $20 with that $5 coupon.

This sucks. The set seems really good, but I really don't want to support flipper discs. Why couldn't Fox have just made DVD/BD flippers and a BD-only release?

He was pretty funny on the season 2 episodes of Parks & Recreation that he guest-starred in

I may end up blind-buying Louie just because of that.

It's 35 bucks on their website and wasn't advertised in their weekly circular.

It's $24.99 at best buy. Mind you, they didn't have it in the bluray packaging, which didn't bother me. Hell all the stores didn't have the bluray packaging.

Hopefully mine has the Blu-Ray packaging. I didn't even know this was coming in DVD packaging as well.

I like Louis CK much more than I dislike flippers.

and unless you are writing letters to the studio, they'll most likely assume someone is choosing not to buy a disc because of it's content.

I really don't care about flippers.

Anytime I hold any disc, I hold it by it's edges and put in either it's case or the player. I could give two flaming turtle farts if someone is upset because they can't feel free to set the disc on any surface. It's a disc, treat it like an investment if you really give crap about them.

I'd personally like to see more original programming on tv, like Louie. So I'm voting for that programming with my wallet.

I'd rather have a good show on a flipper, than a crappy show on a disc that isn't.

If you don't care about the DVD side, why does the fact that it's a flipper bother you? I feel like I am missing something here.

I care about it because it's a stupid way to package your product and any convenience is would have is erased by the hassle that that convenience causes--that is, the idea of BD/DVD flipper discs is "universal" playback and portability, but the double-sided nature of the disc means you can't transport it anywhere except in its case unless you want to be really careful, so it's a conundrum.

Also, the label side comes in handy for storage in disc binders, and also for "resting" discs on while you swap them out of the player, etc.

I don't want to give Fox the idea that I think such packaging is appropriate for other releases, and we certainly don't want to go down the road MGM went, where DVD extras and commentaries were not ported because they were on the DVD side already.

So, I need to find a way to show Fox that I like the series enough to purchase it, but also that I hate flipper releases.

Here's what you do: buy the content you want. If you're unhappy with how Fox handled the release, write them a letter.

I bought Barton Fink on DVD from them last year and was appalled by the picture quality. I let them know. I got a phone call and a Barton Fink/Raising Arizona/Miller's Crossing triple pack for my trouble.

I honestly think writing a letter expressing your dissatisfaction is a much better way to get your point across than choosing not to purchase the product at all.
