Yup. That's definitely Meruru. Another thing to tell if it was Atelier Meruru is if you see Rorona turned into a child.

Yeah, I would say it was definitely Atelier Meruru then. Looks like a really fun game though. I'll be looking forward to this.

Probably should play Rorona 1st while you still have like 1 and a half months until Totori is released in America.

Makes me wish the video was more like at least 12 minutes long.

I just hope this one's a little more stable than Atelier Rorona was. Nothing quite like synthesizing for a month worth of game time and having the game freeze...

Jees... what were you making?

My misses had that game on lock down with her second playthrough. I think she's on her 4th now, maybe 5th... absolutely loves it. I have the soundtrack on my ipod so when I'm away from her I listen to it. When I'm home editing, she sometimes plays Rorona and I can here it off in another room on another floor. And the occasional, 'aw ****, I forgot to save again'.

Edit: I think she got the platinum, not sure...

Uh, anything and everything. Atelier Rorona would freeze at the drop of a hat if I looked at it funny during synthesis.

Basically was forced to save after every few game days because there just wasn't any way to be sure the screen transition wouldn't go off into the void and lock up the game.

It got so bad that I ended up giving up on the game around the 8th test or so. I just couldn't deal with the tedium of save > synthesize > save > synthesize over and over and over after the game would crash.

Did the game ever get patched to make it more stable? I haven't played it in a long time, and maybe (hopefully?) they fixed the problem?

Freeza-ups in NIS America localized games are completely random. You can go through a whole day of gaming without a freeza-up, and then the next day of you playing the game, you might get a couple of even a few freeza-ups. Though not every NIS America localized game has that problem.

Just save the game often and you should be fine.

Pardon me if I would like my games to not randomly crash, especially games which deliberately force me to grind. Making excuses for shoddy programming isn't the right answer.

I don't mind grinding. I do mind repeating that same grind because someone got lazy and never tracked down a random showstopper bug. It's a complete buzzkill, and frankly I've little patience for it when there are dozens of other games that I have not finished in my library which won't just play dead.

tl;dr: "Frequent saving" is not a valid game mechanic. I should be able to save when I want to stop playing, or before I make a major game decision like what to bring to a boss fight. I should NOT have to save every 5 minutes because the game might suddenly decide it's the 3rd Tuesday of the lunar calendar and lock up for no reason. This is ESPECIALLY annoying in a game with branching storylines like Atelier Rorona which are largely invisible to the player until the end of the game.

But it's all random, and the freeze-ups are not as bad as like the PS3 versions of Fallout 3 and New Vegas or the Ar tonelico II Raki bug where you have to beat that boss in under 3 or 4 turns(though i've always managed to avoid it). It's like how there are people who play Trinity Universe and never get a freeze-up, while others have said that they had at least 10 freeze-ups. You just never know if it'll happen or not, or even when.

Though it is true that most people who have had freeze-up issues in NIS America games are usually ones with PS3s that get to hot while playing.

Au contraire. Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas both got patched and perform mostly OK. More to the point, FO3/NV are both much more transparent to the player about what a good time to save might be. And besides, the Fallout games also have a quite capable auto-save feature which will save your bacon if something goes haywire.

I figure I lost about 3-4 hours of total gameplay in Atelier Rorona due to random crashes before I threw in the towel and gave up.

And yes, I've gotten freezing in Trinity Universe, and it's just as unforgivable there as it is in Atelier Rorona, and I stopped playing that game for exactly the same reason.

As for Ar Tonelico, I don't think comparing a bad bug (random, sometimes frequent freezing) to an equally bad bug (consistent freezing after a certain number of turns in a boss battle) is in any way a mitigating factor. It just means that there's another game with another stupid bug that shouldn't have gotten past QA and should have gotten patched.

I have played Rorona for hours without saving and got like 2 different endings in one gaming session and freezing was never an issue for me. If I remember correctly, I only freeze about three times while playing Rorona and that is it. Hardly, a problem in my eyes.

PS2 single player games don't have the capability of patching once it is released in stores.

With Trinity Universe, I used to get freeze-ups on my 60GB PS3(which was already acting pretty sick to most of my games before my 2nd YLOD), but never once got a single freeze-up on my current 320GB PS3 Slim.

As always, I am following this thread with vested interest.

I own 2 PS3 60Gs and a slim 120G. I asked the misses about Rorona and she said she has never had a freeze up on either of the 60s.

I did have a few freezes while playing Hyperdimension Neptunia, but very, very few.

The games that I can remember the most freezes would be The Force Unleashed I, Fallout 3 regular and GOTY, Uncharted 2, and The Sims 3.

I got a few freeze-ups in Neptunia while doing the Rank Registration on the quests that give you a rank for how well you did. It would say something like Connection Timed Out while it's trying to upload my rank, but that's happened on both of my Japanese version and American version.
