This.

I voted Apocalypse now because it's the best film that just happens to be set during the Vietnam war, but if I had to pick the best movie about the war I'd probably go with Platoon.

I voted Apocalypse Now. it was between Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket, but I feel Apocalypse now is slightly beter IMO, though the first half hour or so of Full Metal Jacket is amazing.

I stumbled across this at a local video store twenty or so years ago and then it just dropped off the face of the planet.

Which is a shame because it's excellent. I have no first-hand experience with the subject matter but friends who did spoke very highly of its authenticity.

by far and away this is not only the best nam film, it is the best war film...when you think how long it took to make , in the period it was made.... the cinematography alone is outstanding

I found 'The Deer Hunter' to be way too long and pretty boring. For instance, did they really need to show the ENTIRE wedding? Anyone want to share what is so worthwhile and redeeming about this movie, besides watching Christopher Walken?

Oh, and I voted 'Full Metal Jacket'.

Although not a Vietnam War per se, Rambo: First Blood could get an honorable mention!

@Reddawn, Glad to see you know your history!

I voted FMJ but I really did like We Were Soldiers. AN was just so far out there it felt like it was set during the same time period but not at all about the war.
