Ah, so it's not just me. Nearly $17 for 4 movies. Too pricey if you ask me.

I didn't. I only went to the check-out then decided to not go with it because the shipping fees weren't worth it.

Yep they just increased shipping to Canada in the last 2 weeks. It really sucks but in most cases it is still cheaper than buying locally in Canada. I'm going to look around for other places now though.

I know there are daily fluctuations, but that break-through may be a spike.

What I'm suggesting is : convince your friends that this week or next weekend is the time to go to the USA and buy high-end items, like Blu ray players and screens.
That will help off set Transformer sales. maybe?

Long shot? Well it's worth a try

for sure worth a try but i heard/expect US/Canada customs will be cracking down to prevent just that: the purchase of electronics and higher priced items in the US. it only makes sense

Cracking down on what? There is nothing illegal or wrong with people from Canada buying products in the US.

Yes, there are some restrictions on alcohol and tobacco which vary depending on how long you have been gone and even how much merchandise you can purchase before having to pay duty on it.

But even with the duty, some stuff (cars especially) is still cheaper to bring in from the US.

Cars can cost as much as 40% more here in Canada.

My co-worker bought a Subaru and threatened to not honour the warranty but that would be a violation of their agreement with the overarching Subaru North America.

I think someone should start suing the dealers for ripping people off all these years.

*edit*
I see that they have already started. What peeves me off is the price difference in Canada for books and magazines including magazines published in Canada.
