Before people start frothing at the mouth and banning me…

I love The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

But…

It’s a nightmare of political incorrectness now.

You can’t call a trans person a ‘tranny’. See Ru Paul, drag race, and one contestant saying ‘ the use of the words ‘she-male,’ ‘ladyboy,’ and ‘tranny’ are not cute at all’.

Deadnaming. RALPH!

Mail order bride jokes.

Child molester reference - Gary Glitter.

I’m sure there are plenty of other culturally insensitive jokes that will have certain people baying for blood, like the depictions of aborigines and women, as racist and misogynistic.

But then plenty of old Bond movies probably upset some people for ***** Galore/Plenty O’Toole jokes.

I think the movie is a hoot. Also a) being a comedy and b) not a Hollywood movie, none of our ‘heroes’ die and there’s a happy ending. Quite an achievement.

I think people can understand that this movie is a product of its time / place. Besides, Bernardette never takes any s--t in the face of said abuse, and to me that's a positive portrayal.

Honestly, people need to find something better to do with their lives than going to older movies and tv shows to point out how they aren't politically correct with today's extreme views of certain groups. Gladly I think more and more people are getting tired of it.
I am all for doing the right thing and not being offensive but this is a movie, and it's from 1994. Anyone that expects it to be on the same level of what hits cinemas today (which is already offensive to them) has no place having a voice on social media as they are clearly lacking the minimum required brain-width.
Let me quote Bette Midler, and say "F*** them if they can't take a joke!".

I received this the other day, alonside the huge Neverending Story box set but have not dared open it up. I'm surprised it's not already OOP because the lenticular box looks so lush.
I love this movie to bits and am looking forward to watching it again, and all its extras.

The thing is that the people that complain about films like this really don't need to watch it. No one is forcing them.

Just got my copy in the mail. I leave in the morning for vacation and still have to pack but if I have time after, I def plan on watching it. Otherwise, I won’t be able to check it out until right before new years. Sturdy box. Clamshell inside with booklet next to it and envelope with photos next to that. One odd thing I noticed is the clamshell has a full color image, on the reverse of the cover (the three leads in their bearded dragons looks) but it’s not a clear clamshell so you can’t see it. Weird. Anyway, I’ll report back after I’ve given it a good watch.

I'm sure I read about a 4K steelbook release somewhere, although I can't find anything to support that online anymore...

I watched the regular Blu-Ray and thought it looked great for an older disc. I would love to get the Imprint, but it's so expensive in Canada. My local shop had it for $160 (!) Canadian.

Sampled some scenes on the UHD disc over the weekend, and this looks pretty damn good. I did see a few single-frame speckles that I wish were cleaned up, but on the whole this is a good looking Blu.

I purchased the new 4k from Imprint. It Looks stunning in Dolby Vision in the middle of the desert on top of a bus! They really have cleaned this up so well and if you are offended don't buy it or watch it. This is Australian Humour, Dark and Dirty. Is it Politically correct NO, But that's the whole point. I love this movie as I used to live 2 minutes away from the pub they filmed in Sydney, This is just normal Sydney gay guy living. It hasn't changed. I have no idea why anyone would be shocked about an MA-rated dark comedy from 1994. Because at its heart, it's about love and family. The film broke down barriers and walls, especially in the Australian Gay community, because after word of mouth this movie played for a year at my cinema. Everybody went and saw it it didn't matter who or what you were, It was just a dam good time. With classic one-liners.

Finally got around to watching my copy and was quite surprised at how much clearer everything was. I never thought the blu-ray looked bad (it doesn’t) but my gosh, the uhd reveals stuff I’ve never seen before, especially some of the colors used in Guy Pearce’s makeup. Everything just looks a bit sharper and shinier and prettier. Just how a drag queen would want it.

Didn't realize there was a 4k release. Still hoping Frauds and Welcome to Woop Woop by this director get a blu.

Didn't realize this film was considered "trash spectacle". 🙄

Yeah….Svet has always been a reviewer I take with a grain of salt and I can normally gloss over his personal takes but his constant use of “trash” and wishing it was more like Showgirls was quite….trash. They need to start offering alternate reviews of everything he reviews, for those of us not looking for a refill of his prescriptions.

The only thing that's "trash" is Svet himself. Absolutely useless reviewer. Glad someone put up their own personal review so I can ignore his.
