Yes.

The Substance/Subsistence versions of MGS2/3 will be used, but not necessarily all the extra content will be included. Metal Gear Online from MGS3 especially seems unlikely.

I coulda sworn that they said in the original announce for this collection that all the games would have 360 camera control (ala subsistance). Of course, I could be mistaken.....

thing is, MGS games have always looked good in still shots. The big improvements will come from viewing the games in motion, particularly Snake Eater, which suffers from tons of aliasing, texture shimmering, and some nasty framerates particularly in the end chunk of the game.

Different strokes I supposed. The original camera system is classic Metal Gear and forces you to be more resrouceful and do more Recon. The Subsistence camera does make the game a smoother/more streamlined play experience, but it turns the whole game into an actioney run and gunner. Whereas the game was deliberately designed with pacing and so that only certain sections were supposed to be like that. For example, the climb up the mountain to Groznyj Grad. In the orignal release, the camera angle is tweaked here to encourage a more "rambo"-like play style.

I am more curious as to whether MGS2 will get a user-controlled camera.

MGS2's environments are much tighter so I can't see that working well. They'd have to do a lot of extra work allowing the camera to over hand-rails and stuff that was never needed originally.

Kojima Productions wants to remake the first Metal Gear Solid title in full HD, so says the studio's creative producer Yoshikazu Matsuhana.

Speaking with Eurogamer at E3 in Los Angeles this week, Matsuhana explained that the studio had decided against including the 1998 PSone classic in the forthcoming Metal Gear Solid HD Collection as both its gameplay and visuals are just too dated.

"Obviously, we wanted to include it and make it a complete collection. However, as you know, Metal Gear Solid 1 was for the PSone. It has a very, very low polygon count," he explained.

"While at the time the game was something new and refreshing, just bringing it as is into HD probably wouldn't have that much meaning to us. We're doing two and three with a certain work flow where the goal is to take that game, preserve it and introduce it to a new generation. We can't really take that approach with Metal Gear Solid 1 because it's very dated at this point."

However, Matsuhana then added that the studio hopes to return to the game at some point and give it some special attention above and beyond a new HD lick of paint.

"If we were going to do Metal Gear Solid 1 we'd want to take more time with it. Not just up-res the textures, not just make things look pretty and polished, but go back and tweak some of the gameplay, tweak the story to update things and do it properly. Not just a re-master but a re-imagining almost.

"We do want to do that sometime down the road but it will take more time. It's not something we're looking at doing right now."
You did it so well in MGS4 why don't you do the whole game.

I got shivers when I got to this part.

The biggest improvements for me will be that Snake Eater will run at 60fps now instead of 30fps it ran on PS2. Also the Peace Walker screenshots look to benefit the most obviously since they are coming from PSP graphics. Either way having all games in one box is definitely enough to make me buy this since I never completed Snake Eater and haven't played Peace Walker since I don't own a PSP.

This seems like an excellent collection and I'll probably pick it up sometime, although I still need to complete MGS4.

i don't think i have never been so excited about a game as much as i was when all of a sudden i ended back at shadow moses....i was never a big gamer but back when metal gear solid first came out my friend (who also wasn't a big gamer) got the game and we sat up playing it all night in absolute shock at what a video game could be...needless to say this part brought back some good memories

Hideo Kojima Talks Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Peace Walker HD, PS Vita

Quote:
These days, Hideo Kojima is a busy man. The Metal Gear mastermind recently revealed that the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is heading to the PS3 this November. The HD Collection includes revamped versions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, complete with dual-analog-stick controls, 1080p graphics, smoother frame rates, a redesigned user interface, rumble support and much more.

We caught up with Kojima last week at an appearance in Mexico City and he was eager to speak with PlayStation.Blog readers. Enjoy the Q&A, and leave your favorite Metal Gear moments in the comments!

I'm not sure about purchasing HD collections, they're not "true" remakes, (à la Halo Anniversary) and I have to wonder just how much better. That's not to say I won't get them, definitely interested in this, Shadow of the Colossus/ICO and Silent Hill at least. I also need to complete MGS4 before I get these.

recent tweet from Hideo Kojima:

Re-recording for “MGS HD (MGS3)” in progress today, and the voice actors from MGS are here from the morning.

And one of the best things about the HD remakes are trophy support.
