That's exactly what is wrong in internet forums, in my opinion. Star Wars with the SE/prequels, Indy with the KOTC, LOTR with the green tint, etc. I'm not on any side but that's just the truth.

I like Will Smith in almost everything else I've seen him in... and I love the old Wild Wild West TV series... but this movie was pretty awful.

Wow! I'm surprised to find so much dislike for this film. I enjoyed it the few times I saw it, and will definitely be picking this up, since it's been years since I've seen it. Every time I looked for it on DVD I couldn't find it.

I knew nothing about it the first time I saw it...it surely wasn't what I thought it was going to be. I did not expect it to have such a sci-fi/fantasy bent...and full of unexpected ridiculousness, crazy mad-scientists with steam-powered inventions!

But that's what I loved about it. It was so off-the-wall and original. I truly think it's one of those rare movies that people don't get and therefore trash, but history and pop culture never forget. I've seen shows and/or films reference it's Victorian-era sci-fi aspects...which I found fascinating. I have no idea if that aspect is unique to this film or not (but for me, that's when I first saw it) but it was fascinatingly rendered. Really captured the imagination.

Cult classic, perhaps.

EDIT: I think I like it even more now that I know there's so much disdain for it!!

Have you ever seen the original TV show on which this movie is loosely based?

The TV show was really good... and also was a western that featured advanced-for-the-time science-fiction gadgetry.

Nothing about the movie was original... it was poorly/loosely based upon the TV show.

I suppose if you never saw the TV show... you might find things to like about the movie. But most fans of the TV show thought the movie was a horrible thing to carry the same name.

That's where most of the disdain comes from.

I may have seen the original show, I seem to remember something -- but clearly didn't make the connection.

Either way...lucky for me! I dug this flick!

Eventually, Best Buy blu-ray exclusives, will be available at all retailers nationwide at a later date.

I've seen this movie 3 times and cannot understand all the hatred. What's wrong with it? It's a typical action flick with a touch of comedy. What's the problem?

I'm with you on that. I think much of the hatred may stem from a love for the original TV show (which I have not seen) and being let down / this version not living up to expectations. Kevin Klien in drag was pretty awful I must admit but for a general action / popcorn type of movie I liked it. I can't say its much better or worse than most movies of this genre over the last decade.

Lots of people like Starship Troopers... and people like Star Trek... but if Starship Troopers had been released as "Star Trek" then more people would have disliked it because it wasn't Star Trek.

That's the biggest problem with the Wild Wild West movie.

IF it were a weird scifi-western comedy/action flick with a different name and different character names... then it wouldn't have to live up to the history of the TV show.

BUT... it was made as an extension/remake of the Wild Wild West TV series... so IF you are a fan of that TV show, you really can't like that this movies bears the same name and character names.

This movie really shouldn't have been made with that history attached to it.

If this movie is so lousy, why then is price of the Blu-ray so high?
I'm a fan of this flick, but won't buy it until it drops to $7.99 or lower.
Is it OOP?

Wild Wild West is a hilarious comedy, though I suspect the last decade of politics and social zeitgeist has pretty much guaranteed it will see the light of day on 4K or be discussed much anymore. Which is a shame, because there is a lot to unpack and enjoy about this film, not least of which is Will Smith's catchy credit rap song.
