None of those are really groundbreaking features anymore. I was impressed 3 or so years ago, the last 2 years more and more of my devices have offered the same features as the PS3. The PS3 still has a wireless g signal, doesn't playback mkv or FLACs, most games aren't in 1080p, the browser is absolute shit (I honestly wouldn't cite that as a feature), and the free online play is about to disappear with new releases that require a PSN pass.

I'm willing to bet that wireless-n would not offer a practical benefit for the vast majority of PS3 owners.

True, not natively, though paired with a robust dlna server like PS3 Media Server, it's certainly possible.

Agreed...a GPU upgrade would definitely make sense now that 1080p TVs are more prevalent.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

This is completely incorrect. I don't think you understand how the PSN Pass works.

It is correct. It's "free" as long as you buy the game new (which I always do, but I don't think people who buy used should suffer), otherwise you'll have to pay $10 a game.

But your paying for the game not PSN.

The above explanation is not consistent with the phrase you used, which was, "free online play is about to disappear with new releases that require a PSN pass."

Your original statement should have said, "free online play is about to disappear for upcoming releases that require a PSN Pass when you purchase the game used and the original owner already used the PSN Pass." But then, such accuracy would have made for a much less effective counterpoint to the statement, "The PS3 has free online play."

either $249 or $199 would be great deals considering i bought mine for $599.

I would hope that they would make a very base model, like a 60-80 gb HDD for like $149 and then a mid model for $199 and a premium model with wireless N for $249 or even keep at $299

Well, I'm recently dead in the water on my launch 60GB PS3 with a YLOD. Was considering a repair, but I may wait to see if there is a price drop before doing so.

I'm pretty much in the same boat....I'm really hoping for a pricedrop in the 320 model. Even if it's only by $50, that would be fine.

Really hope that with the imminent or apparent death of the PS2, they may now reintegrate backwards compatibility as it would be very cheap and probably encourage more people to take the plunge.

try replacing the power supply, most of the 60gb had a poor design.

its an easy part to replace if u look at youtube for instructions. a few screws and a pull out power cord. thats all.

a new power supply is about $30 or $40

I'm in the market for one to and found out a couple of weeks ago that they had promos for $100.00 gift cards . I know a price drop is coming in August but I want one now lol . I'm thinking about buying from bestbuy since they have that 30day policy so if there is a price drop I will have them match it and if they don't return it and buy it again.

Would be awesome but HD collections have effectively killed that dream.

Not only have the HD collections pretty much ruled out the incentive to invest in BC software, but the demand has surly dropped significantly at this point. Consumers transitioning from PS2 to PS3 were responsible for the majority of the demand, very few people are still at this stage and the library of content available on PS3 now is enough to satisfy newcomers.

It's not misinformation. You buy a PSN Pass enabled game that isn't "new", then you have to pay for the online portion. If you don't buy it new, you don't have access to online features. Not sure how you find that confusing.

Also, this will happen. People say it is a "rumour", but it will come true. It's been two years since the last price drop. PS3 is five years old already, so the PS3 is bound for another price drop. If you are familiar with this industry, then you would be expecting a price drop.
Explain, to me, why the exchange rate has nothing to do with it?

It still does not change the fact that PSN is a FREE SERVICE, not to mention there is so much more to PSN then just Multi player aspect . I think you just worded it a little wrong some average Joe browsing would take it as there will be a new online fee structure to get into PSN (similar to Xbox).

Since you seem to understand how the PSN Pass works and presumably have all along, then you're right that you didn't post misinformation, since that would mean it was unintentional.

Instead, you posted disinformation, because your original statement was intentionally inaccurate for the purpose of being misleading. See my previous post in this thread for what an accurate statement would have been and the obvious reason you decided not to be accurate.

It seems like Sony is letting PS3 inventory run low for some reason because it's sold out on numerous online retailers...

I remember Sony stopped shipping older PS3s to retailers in Japan weeks before the slim announcement back in 2009, but that was a brand new model (obviously). I don't think they'd let it run so low just for the new 3000 models, so... $199 PS3 incoming? I guess we'll see in about a month.
