And Warner Home Video has officially set Pee-wee's Big Adventure and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - both Tim Burton films - for Blu-ray Disc release on 10/4 (SRP $19.98 each). Pee-wee will include commentary by Paul Reubens and Tim Burton, additional scenes, production sketches and storyboards, a music-only track with commentary by Danny Elfman and the theatrical trailer. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will include an In-Movie Experience viewing option with Tim Burton, audio commentary by Tim Burton, 8 featurettes (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Chocolate Dreams, Different Faces, Different Flavors, Designer Chocolate, Under the Wrapper, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Sweet Sounds, Becoming Oompa-Loompa, Attack of the Squirrels and Fantastic Mr. Dahl), 2 previsualizations (Augustus Gloop dance and Mike Teavee dance), a Dolby TrueHD music-only track, the European club reel and the theatrical trailer.
Yay, Pee Wee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm, I don't own the previous release of this, and the current prices are FAR too high for me to consider buying it. This was a childhood favorite, I may have to jump on this. I realize people have said the Tim Burton version was more true to the book, but it never really 'clicked' with me (bought it blind on DVD when it was released.) To me Gene Wilder made a FANTASTIC Willy Wonka. This was a beautiful film, IMO.

Both versions kept parts of the book, removed parts of the book, and just made up their own shit as well.

I know the marketing for the film was claiming that it ws "more true" to the book, but I don't see that being the case.

Both versions have their merits and faults, IMO. I prefer the Wilder version, but I don't hate what Burton did.

I hope the third disc isn't just a digital copy. Although a different studio, Fantastic Mr. Fox was/is also three discs (BD/DVD/Digital Copy).

And really, do we need all that crap. I want the movie, not a trip to the gift shop.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate Burton's film; perhaps it is a 'rose tinted glasses' effect, but I definitely prefer Wilder's take on Wonka. Something about Burton's take on Wonka just didn't feel right, and that may well be due to my early exposure to the Mel Stuart version of the story. Nevertheless I think I will have to pick up the re-release! That, and I love the Jack Albertson portrayal of Grandpa Joe!

I'm thininking the disc setup will go as follows (if it's not a simple typo):

Disc one: The current Blu-ray release.
Disc two: The current DVD release or possible DVD/ Digital Copy combo disc.
Disc three: Digital Copy (if they don't do the Warner usual combo disc) or a soundtrack CD or the 2005/ Tim Burton version.

I really don't think they're going to put bonus material on two Blu-ray Discs. With these kinds of sets, Warner usually (re: always) justs puts the current disc in a snazzy box with the extra goodies, and this seems like the kind of title where they would probably just do that and maybe add a DVD and soundtrack.

And as much as I love this movie, I don't think I will pick this one up, as the current release (especially in a very handsome digibook) has a nice transfer and some nice bonus material.

I've been trying to find a way to get this movie into my collection at a reasonable price for quite a while now. Not willing to pay $60 for this collector's edition.

May I just reiterate for this page, that while it's possible and maybe even extremely likely that this set will include the same BD, the last digibook discontinued by Warner and re-released in a UCE, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, did indeed sport a different BD. Yes, that was a UCE more along the lines of Harry Potter and Casblanca as opposed to Gone With the Wind and The Wizard of Oz while this seems to be more along the latter, however it is entirely possible the BD that will be included may be different.

You can order the digibook edition from Amazon Canada, as I did just las week. It's the same USA edition.

Or you can go for the standard, cheaper edition, although that one suffers from bilungual cover art.

For those who already own the Digibook or standard Blu release and are thinking of buying this set...you'll be rebuying the same disc as far as the film/transfer is concerned.

A Wonka Bar, now that's a bloody bright idea (it'll freakin' melt if it's a real one!)

Now if it's a faux/fake one, that's oakie doakie.

Assume it's a collectors' fake, since the real Wonka Bars (milk chocolate with rice krispies) only show up in Toys R Us around Christmastime.

I don't think you quite understood what I was saying, certainly not enough to do an eyeroll.
My HD-DVD hasn't been able to play all the way through for about a year, so it was already a lost cause, now with a blu-ray version that is likely improved coming out I can purchase a version that I can actually watch. Not sure how this would have been lost in translation.
