Good news and bad news. Good news: 'Mouse Cleaning' is being restored from the original nitrate elements...which had been found along with some others from Tom and Jerry. Bad news: It's being held over for Volume 2.

Here's an article. The final four episodes of the previously announced 41 shorts are being held over. http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Tom-Jer...Volume-1/15578

Sounds worth the wait to me. We were gonna have to wait for the next volume anyway, at least most of the shorts planned for this release are ready to go for this fall.

Nice to see I'm not the only one. I just find the animation of Jones' cartoons to be very off-putting and the stories aren't very funny either. They became too involved with technology in the stories (or at least that's what I remember)

By the way, for some reason this forum bleeps Fred's last name and that's why I had to type with a space in between - Qui mby. See - ****by.

Indeed, this is excellent news, provided the cartoons are uncut in the correct 1.37:1 aspect ratio and have lossless audio (preferably mono), I will be happy to purchase the set. I always found the original Tom and Jerry cartoons hilarious.

If TVSoDVD has updated their article to say it will not be included, then they are correct. It seems someone jumped the gun in the first place releasing as much information as they did to TVSoDVD in the first place.

Forget Star Wars and Jurassic Park, this is my most anticipated blu of the year.

I like the Deitch episodes for their weirdness (especially with character gesture and sound design), but you're right in that they pale compared to the FQ shorts.

The Jones episodes are just downright boring IMHO, and both his and Deitch's characters are poorly rendered. Tom is supposed to be sly and mean by design, and Jerry a cute and resourceful little dude. Give me FQ or Tex Avery over Jones any day of the week. Deitch's stuff makes for an interesting side note.

What's with all the Chick Jones hate? After all he did the stellar animated TV feature: "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" (I've never met a sole who does'nt like that one)

I love How the Grinch Stole Christmas, but his style just isn't suited for Tom & Jerry IMO. When I compare his Tom & Jerry with the earlier work by Fred, I'd choose the older cartoons anyday b/c Tom & Jerry (and other characters such as Spike & Tyke) actually look cute and the stories are funny. I think the problem with Jones's versions is that at some point or another in each cartoon, Tom & Jerry actually start to look like the Grinch and not at all cute.

Fred Qui mby rules!

If it wasn't for "Gay Pur-eee" that Jones moonlighted on (and got fired from WB in the process), we might not have those T+J's.

I don't mind the Chuck Jones ones. The ones I really dislike are the episodes that were "silent". I don't know how to explain it. There were a bunch of episodes that just had weird sound effects and animation. There was almost no music in them. Do you guys know what I'm talking about? Whenever those episodes come on I switch channels. I don't know who directed them but I really dislike them.

I do know that some of them show a man (Tom's owner) who always looks pissed off. One episode had them going to the beach and Jerry sneaks on the car (station wagon) and Tom tries to get rid of him.

God, those episodes drive me nuts! Who directed them?

Edit: Looked it up and found out it was Gene Deitch. I can't stand those episodes.
