I would be tempted to do a group buy if the movie was actually really good but I hear it's not a very good movie anyway!

Are there any other blu-rays that are only available in Brazil?

I'm in, as the BD alone is $33, that's an unbeatable deal, IMO.

I too would consider a group buy for $38.00 if there are other takers. I'll keep coming back to this blog on a daily basis if we get enough takers. I'd probably use Paypal to pay whoever sets up the deal.

Which BD? The U.S. release is cropped from 2.39:1 to 1.78:1. The Brazilian release is in the proper aspect ratio.

Are you asking for a review of the Brazilian release? I have the disc

Thanks a lot Sir for the reply. I didnt know the difference between two versions. I havent seen this movie but I watched the trailer and it looks good thats why I asked. Well if you can review the Brazilian disc that will be a bonus for me but what I need to know that is the Brazilian disc easy to get? I mean I dont want to spend extra bucks on this disc since I dont know much about the movie except its made by Giuseppe Tornatore and due to which I am tempted to this movie. If you dont have time to review you can tell me here regarding the PQ, AQ and extras etc as like I said I am not very very much interested and just confused. What you say is it worthy a blind buy and easy to get the Brazil made bd?

Thanks.

Kashif, is the Brazil Blu the best one available? I understand the US release was cropped down to 1.85 from 2.35. The PQ is good but it's the wrong aspect ratio so it's a compromised (not perfect) product.

It is the only one in the original aspect ratio that is English-friendly

Yes. Like bro Svet said above its the only version available which has English subs apart from US release which do have English subs but wrong aspect ratio. Thanks for info about PQ.

I watched this movie yesterday and I must say its a beautiful movie. Not as good as Cinema Paradiso or Malena but it has its own moments. However me and my wife had a hard time figuring about the ending. Can anybody here who has seen the film please clarify?

Major Spoilers Below:

[Show spoiler]I dont get it that was the whole movie a dream by the very young Pepinno? Even if we agree to this then how come the era changed from 30's to modern days when he wakes up?

Suppose If we assume that the ending is the dream by an aging Pepinno even still how can we justify the change of time from 1930's to current Modern times?

Whats your pick on the ending guys? I mean a movie like Baaria dosent require some ambiguous or surreal climax. I am still confused on how it ended.

Please reply.
Thanks!

i bought this movie 2 months ago but haven't had the chance to watch it yet... will tell you my opinion and hopefully be able to clarify some parts of the movie for you. Cinema Paradiso remains to be in my top 3 of the best movies ever made. i do want to suggest though that if you've only seen it and Malena (Tornatore's movies), you MUST see Legend of 1900 with Tim Roth. that's another one of Tornatore's great movies, and i am just upset that the only blu ray available for that movie is region b.

Thanks for the reply and yes do share your thoughts after watching. Also I think Legend of 1900 is not available in UK and US and released by some foreign studio. Its in my wish list for a long time.

I'm kind of late to the game here, but I just watched this film on Netflix (streaming), where it also was in a 1.78:1 "fullscreen" ratio.

If it makes any difference to anyone, it didn't look cropped. The film was apparently shot in Super35. With Super35, the 2.35 framing is actually accomplished through matting. So, the 1.78 framing on Netflix (and, I would suppose, the Blu-ray) is made by opening the matte to that ratio. So, no cropping.

(It does get hairier, and will involve some amount of cropping if there are a lot of CGI shots, but I don't think there's much of that in Baarìa.)

Sure, it's still in the wrong aspect ratio, but there's actually more vertical information rather than less horizontal information. I imagine that this is what the US distributor gave Image for a master.
