It's like Wal-Mart did with the Gi Joe toyline a few years ago. Someone there got it in their mind that Gi Joe was dead and it wouldn't sell so they jacked the prices way up and ordered less stock than they normally would just to prove that it wouldn't sell. Gi Joe, nor Winnie The Pooh had a chance from the start because someone high in power somewhere decided it wasn't worth it despite lots of evidence in both cases to prove otherwise. Winnie The Pooh also wasn't even promoted. I have yet to see one trailer or tv spot for this movie and it's very possible that many people simply didn't know it was coming out as well.

For the record about Gi Joe anyway, Gi Joe according to sales at the time was the 3rd best selling boys toyline in the country but Wal-Mart did that and eventually got the line cancelled for a few months before fans finally complained enough and Hasbro got it back going again without Wal-Mart's involvement. Winnie The Pooh basically suffered the same fate and I expect the sales of this to be absolutely tremendous on dvd/blu-ray when it comes out.
I have seen a lot of TV spots for Pooh more then any other movie out in theaters at the moment besides HP. Disney said they released Pooh on the same day as HP so the younger kids could have something to go and see and I don't think they made the movie just to prove hand drawn animation is dead.

I know it might feel slow, but in 33 months they've put out 16 titles. That's about one title every 8 weeks. That's a 1/3 of the animated canon. Pooh, Lion King, Lady and the Tramp, probably MAO Pooh all coming out in the next several months too. I wouldn't want them to put out 50 titles at once.

I believe you. On the other hand. My sister visits Disneyland three times a year. Has all the expensive Thomas Kincaid paintings. Has Pooh t-shirts and Pooh books and Pooh stuffed animals and loves Eeyore. When I asked her two weeks ago about the film she said, "What film?"

I've seen the trailer twice; once before Cars 2, and once when I Googled "What's the next Disney film." It could be a regional thing, but in AZ I've seen nothing.

I live in Arizona too, and have only seen it before Cars 2, otherwise never.

It really sucks that Peter Cullen isn't voicing Eeyore anymore!

I really have no idea how you can write the film off as a flop on it's opening weekend. The film's budget's only $30 million, it had a higher opening weekend then Piglet's Big Movie and Heffalump Movie, and Pooh movies tend to have good legs, using the recent three as evidence.

Agreed. Not to mention it actually did much better than I expected considering it was against Harry Potter. Eight million for a family movie opening against the biggest franchise of all time is actually damn impressive to me.

And I'll definitely be getting this on blu.

A shame that this hasn't done well-- they shouldn't have released it the same week as HARRY POTTER..

both my sons are now not interested in Winnie the Pooh as they are now 9 and 11... so I can't make the excuse of buying it for them!

but I don't care... when this gets released on blu I'm buying it.... Winnie the Pooh was my favorite as a young child...

Yeah I'm actually surprised at the amount it made against HP as I thought it would have been lower. Already made $15 million worldwide and it's only been out 5 days in the US so it's still going to make more in the US plus with home video sales I see this movie passing it's $30 million budget and making money back for Disney. Plus with all the products Disney makes from Pooh I don't see them giving up on Pooh yet.

Default I really think Pooh and Harry potter are pretty differences.

The Pooh movie would appeal to very your kids, say under 10.

I don't think the deathly Hallows was made for little kids like Pooh was.

If I had a 5,6,7 8,9 year old kid,
I Not taking them to the Deathly Hallows movie !

Doesn't change the fact that it probably shouldn't have been released against Potter. But I'm actually impressed with it's numbers against it.

Yeah a Spring date would have been better IMO but I really like the numbers it put up against Potter. Won't have a huge BO draw but doing really well against the competition.

LOL, yeah. I was like; "Harry Potter is not Disney" when it showed the font before it showed Pooh.

I saw this in theater and it started at 3:15 and ended (not including credits) 4:14. I looked at my friend and was like "WTF" but nevertheless it was an okay movie. I wish it had a better story, I felt like I was watching a TV movie. But I can't complain for spending $3 on a ticket.

Being a huge Winnie the Pooh fan, that is the only issue that I have with the film. Ticket prices are $10.25 / film ( $13.25 for 3D, $15.25 for IMAX 3D) and the film is only an hour longish.

Hopefully I will come to terms with that and go see the film before it hit's the Second Run theaters. Plus, I'm angry that the UK isn't getting a Blu-Ray release since they deemed that "It Wouldn't Sell"

Stephen J. Anderson must be a brilliant writer to convince them to release this!
Stephen J. Anderson is an honest and caring person! A genius! Amazing!

I'd agree that Pooh appeals to young children that wouldn't see DH, but Pooh has also sort of earned some "street cred" with teens over the years. Pooh (along with maybe Grumpy and Tinkerbell) are allowed to sit at the cool kids table, and I think a lot of 13-17 year olds might be a target for this film.

Yeah Pooh isn't just for babies or very young kids. I'm 20 and looking forward to the movie as it's hand drawn, classic Pooh and looks to be a good movie. Also know a lot of older people wanting to see the movie or already have seen it. Just like Tinkerbell as you mentioned they are good movies that any age or sex watches and not just very young kids.

I can confirm that. I'm 16, and a lot of my friends (in the 15-18 range) want to see it. They mostly either don't have time, or they don't have money.
