I have one very simple criteria for whether or not a BD price is "justified" to me. How often do I really wanna watch this film. For example, I have the japanese import of Equilibrium, which cost me $50+. I've had it for going on 3 years now, and have watched it 6 times, so for me, it was money well spent. That said, I wouldn't spend $8 on Tango & Cash, not because I dislike the film, but in the 10 years I've had the film on DVD, I've only ever watched it once. For alot of BD collectors who came late to the game, I can understand being gun-shy about spending $30+ for a single BD release, but for those of us that came in at the ground floor (I started buying in Feb. of '07), most of our earlier purchases came at the $25-35 range (and now that I've gone 3D, I'm going through this "premium" bull$hit all over again). So, unlike DVD, while I'm far more "selective" about my BD purchases, the price is rarely an issue (and in the very near future, I'll be adding the japanese import of Grindhouse, which last I checked, is clocking in at around $70).

I try not to spend a lot on a movie. I watch for sales to keep the price down. My favorite movies (i.e. Star Wars and LOTR) I don't mind spending a little more (but I still look for a great deal). I justify box sets by dividing the cost by how many movies are in it. It usually brings the price down to the same or lower had I bought them individually . I feel justified with new movies knowing that it will cost me a few bucks to rent it, so I just put that money towards buying it. Then, the more I watch a movie, the more the 'cost' comes down per viewing .

I never paid full price for a bluray. There are always sales going on, and the price of blurays never stays that high. So, I never waste my money on expensive blurays. I just wait for price drops.
