I've never gotten the idea that Image does much more than release whatever Sony provides them with.
Is there any evidence that this isn't true?

Great movie, Charlie Kaufman is one of the most talented writers there is.... The one title he directed (Synecdoche, New York) still stands as one of the best of the last 10 years.... IMO of course

As I said in my post right before yours, I believe it's coming out on 1/17/12. The 21st is a Saturday.

Adaptation Blu-ray Review

Cannot possibly relate just how much I loved this movie, and I've been waiting so long for the blu-ray release to watch it again. I wish DD would hurry up and tell me my order has shipped.

Picking up Adaptation. first day
I love Synecdoche, New York, even though it's pretty depressing.

No SE extras that we know they produced years ago?
Criterion is doing Being John Malkovich this year, did they maybe get the rights to this as well?

That would be insanely cool. A Special Edition of ADAPTATION is long overdue.

Think I'm keeping the DVD. It doesn't seem like the image is anything spectacular. And with no commentary or relevant special features? It's a disgrace for such a great film. Oh well, skip.

I'm not too worried about the lack of extras. I was waiting for the review to pre-order, which I just did.

Geez, just a measly two minute "making of" as only feature? Damn. Well, at least it only cost me 12.49 to preorder but still. I wonder if Criterion will release this with the features that are known to have been made for this masterpiece.

Was thinking the same thing, what if Criterion is cooking up a Charlie Kaufman box set?
Oh, Baby. Malkovich, Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine, Synechdoce. All are light in features and Criterion would only have to deal with two studios to make it happen?
Have a good relationship with one, Universal, i.e. Traffic.

Has something happened with this blu? I have called all HMV's in my area (Vancouver) and they don't have it in stock nor on their database. Has anyone herd anything?

Thanks

I tried looking for it at Future Shop yesterday and it wasn't there. Maybe the Canadian release has been cancelled or delayed?

Same here. I also love the superbit DVD transparent case and the image of the two Nic Cages inside.

The worst part is that special features have been produced and sitting in a vault somewhere, probably forever. A special edition was long in the works, and my friend actually confirmed with Susan Orlean that she had done work on extras for it, and there was a trailer for it (just the movie's trailer with a tag at the end, mind you) on Spike Jonze's music video DVD.

Still, I'll continue to hope that Criterion will rescue it, since they have Being John Malkovich on the way.

Don't forget the weird "note" that was also included in the initial pressings.

I like the Blu-ray (definitely locked A for those unsure) image -vast improvement over the DVD. I like this raw look.

Shame we still don't get any special features but Universal Pictures' DVD releases of this do:

It's not much (15mins) but the interviews are a gold mine for a bit of insight into the films.

Could you please post a photo of this note? I don't remember it from my old copy.

You may be right. I haven't had any luck finding it either, not even at DVD & blu-ray specialty shops.
