There are several reasons why the 360 is maxxing out about now. One is that its been out longer. Two is that its based around PC architecture.
PC architectures problem is that coders know it quite well and sooner rather than later they hit the brick wall. The problem with the PS3 is that the coders need to deal with the architecture before they can deal with the engine. Once thats out of the way I would envisage PS3>360 in terms of whats on the screen. I hate all these figures people shout about, they mean nothing. Sony's profits on ps3 will eventually come. |

John Carmack and many other respected coders have said that when all is said and done, both systems are about equally powerful It's not even close to maxed out. |

^ I wonder...
With Halo 3, MS' biggest weapon in the console war, funding would not have been an issue. And we know time was not. H3, with its given feature-set, runs at 640p. Is this a result of a lack of: 1. Money P.S. Killzone 2 etc. better not run sub 720p. |

Halo 3 is an awesome game. Just finished playign the campaign for the last 3 hours and it's amazingly fun. Online is even better. Sorry but if your *****ing about this game not being any good you have very shitty taste. The game doesn't come on a BD disc but it kicks ass.

I know the above is not addressed to me, but I wanted to say that I don't get the "insulting someone but only after apologizing for it in advance" thing

i like fps games. but only on the pc. i dont like any on any console. And i have played halo 3. friends have it. ive seen friends play it for hours. It really doesnt live up to what everyone thought it would be. Fun yes.. But does it look like a next gen game 3 years int he makin.. hellll no Does it deliver a awesome campaighn and story line. no.. but its great multi player.. so it will do well. so its not a bad game it did what it was made to do tho in the end look at starcraft.. the campaign was eh ok. but miltiplayer was great. either way tho the 360 is close to max potential. Its what ive been telling people for a long long time. Maybe its why MS has pushed back the falcon cores. Perhaps their gonna tweak it to do better. |

No, it is not FUD.
To quote the site: "In fact, if you do a comparison shot between the native 1152x640 image and the scaled 1280x720, it’s practically impossible to discern the difference." They say "native 640p". Even though they claim no "practical" difference between the rendered 640p and upscaled 720p image, no scaler is perfect all the time and that includes the Ana (?) scaler. More importantly, even if there is no difference due to scaling, that still does not mean the rendered frame is as good as it would have been if they had the power/inclination to render at 720. That is a given. And, earlier on in the para (from link), they sidestep the issue by saying that since they have two frame buffers of 640p each (for lighting), one could argue that they provide 1280p vertical rez. Sorry, no dice, Bungie ![]() The rendered rez is technically 20% short of 1280 by 720p, pixel count-wise. If Killzone 2 is 640p scaled to 720p, I would be equally curious as to why a 1st party game, hyped beyond belief, worked on with plenty of cash & time and carrying the hopes of a console, should come in short of the next gen, high def threshold. 720p or BUST! |

One way to calibrate whether Halo 3=640p is FUD is to see that the 640p is accepted as fact even at xbox forums at AVS...
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...848672&page=23 I don't think that Halo 3 KILLED the 360. I think the 360 has some legs still but after Halo3, it is going to be hard to drum up as much hype in the future re an exclusive game, Imo It will be interesting to see how many 360s sold in Sep thanks to Halo and compare it to Aug 07 or Sep last year. |

Agree with the OP. I've recently sold my 360 and bought a PS3, partly for the reasons mentioned in the OP and partly for blu-ray.
