But on a good note HD-DVD really has nothing after transformers is realeased so begins the grave digging.
Look ! The red ant's were the first to post the Transformers is on the top crap. I believe it was by that stewart troll . So I countered with the latest list which was meant to shut him up . What happens later is another story. But BLU RAY will continue to kick hddvd butt. Top ten at Amazon six is BLU RAY . Top 25, 11 is hddvd.
Just using the same ammo to fire back at the hddvd trolls.
Get it ?

No offense, but these threads are pretty useless. It's the same thing over and over again. Transformers is going to fail on HD-DUD and blah blah blah. Fantastic Four 2 is going to own and blah blah blah.

Does it really matter in terms of "whose better" ? We all want Blu to win. Yes. However, can we stop with the threads bashing the other format and claiming almighty ownage when some of our movies have bombed themselves?

Would be nice

I will NOT be picking up FFRSS. Did not watch the first one and don't have plans on watching the second one. Not my type of movie.

I think you all need to realize there are like 15/20 movies coming out this month on Blu. That alone will negate any lime light Transformers may/will see. By a WIDE margin.

There's so much focus on Transformers because we all realise the amount of FUD that's going to come our way should HD-DVD win a single week, even if it is pumelled for the rest of Q4.

Those are some great points. I am really excited, not about the war (which is really going to go Blu-ray in Q4), but for all of the great movies that are coming to our format of choice. It really feels nice. BTW when to Best Buy today with a friend from work, and helped him purchase the Sony BD 300. My friend is also a huge FF fan, and will be back tomorrow to purchase the movie.

I understand why Transformers is receiving so much focus and hoping to fail, since most of us were looking forward to it on blu-ray until Paramount was bribed into going HD-DVD only. So I am understand why some will have a chip on their shoulder against it.

True, but everyone mis-states what the Paramount deal means.

The Paramount deal doesn't give Transformers to HD-DVD, it takes it away from Blu-Ray. HD-DVD will sell the same number of copies as it would have if there was a Blu-Ray version as well. (Yes, a few people have both systems or will buy an HD player for this one movie, but that number is probably statistically insignificant.)

Unless the difference between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD sales is less than the number of Transformers sold on HD-DVD, this one deal really doesn't hurt Blu-Ray at all, except in ego.

thats good news.... I hope Transformers doesn't sell that well... That way, Paramount will regret their decision on moving exclusively to hd dud.

On that note, why would Paramount swap over for only $150 million??? I know that is a lot fo money, but for the movie business, and a company like that? Thats not a lot of $$$.... They made over a billion $ from Transformers alone. I have a feeling more is at stack then we know

illion with a B?

And they wouldn't sell a illion with an M BDs and HD DVDs combined in 18 months. Not a lot of profit there and certainly not close to $100 illion with an M.

Great. A battle of mediocrity.

As to money, there's a lot of misconception as to where the movie money comes from and goes. No, Paramount didn't make over a billion.

A lot of money comes from investors and GROSS REVENUE to movie companies are largely based on the take of the first couple of weeks of tickets and any back-end money that can be had (theater gets larger cut of ticket sales as time goes on).

Don't confuse gross revenue with profit.

Example: Company A has a profit margin of 5%. They bring in $100 million in sales, the profit was $5 million.

Gross isn't net, not even close, and movie money gets split up all over the place.

Default Transformers overrated anyway

Am I the only one that thinks Transformers is way overrated? I mean it was decent enough but it was no where near great (it completely pales in comparison to the cartoon movie). I originally planned to purchase it like most of you, but its not a must own and I can easily wait till its released on Blu. Why stress so much over one title, the fact is sales of transformers will be limited to the number of HD-DVD owners currently (and maybe a few new adopters) which pales in comparison to blu numbers. So yes, it will do well for HD-DVD but it cant do that well unless it pulls in thousands to millions of new owners. I have a feeling blu will still win the week, maybe by a lesser margin but considering the number of blu owners the potential is there to win out the week.

There's also the people who buy an HD-DVD player instead of a Blu-ray player because the heard Transformers is only available on the former. There's probably fewer than 1000 such people... but each is a travesty.

That is definitely true. What he meant I think is that $150 million isn't really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. A movie that grosses $697,841,710 USD (not over a billion by the way) worldwide with a $200 million USD production budget is going to bring in a lot more then the $150 million they made here especially when you take into concideration that this amount is only representing the theatrical release.

While we don't know how much profit studios are making off of these movies, a good indicator of how well the DVD/BD/HD DVD release will do is by looking at box office performance. While Transformers did extremely well in the box office, it paled in comparaison to Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, and even Spiderman 3.

We cannot hope for a Blu Ray victory, if were not ready to fight to the end. Giving HD DVD a week is significant, because Warner and Universal will be watching what unfolds in week 42. If Blu ray can stiffle HD DVD in week 42, it has a very good chance to sweep the whole callender year. Studio's notice stuff like that. Why should I care? Because I want an end to the war with HD DVD and start the long trek to victory against SD DVD, the real opponent, when it comes to sales. I will be waiting for that week to throw at least $100.00 in sales toward Blu, in week 42.

I can't understand the interest in Transformers? Sure the special effects were great, but I think it is a lousy Bay film. On the release date, I for one will buy several BD'S to counteract sales of Transformers. At this point, I would not have a Paramount disc, if it were free
