Nah, it was a sarcastic smiley

Oddly enough, the 4 pre-owned discs I have are not scratched.

I was thinking about this last night, and I now believe that each of the scratched discs I mentioned were scratched before coming into my possession, but I just hadn't noticed them until now.

Several of those movies I've watched just once, so I don't see how I could have scratched them.

I don't think I have any scratched discs and I'm well over the 200 mark. I've bought quite a few PV from BBV as well. Now I'm sure it's possible that their might be some in there that I don't know, but so far I don't think so. I usually always check the disks of PVd ect.

I think there's a huge difference between the scratch resistance of BD compared to DVDs.

The only way Blu-rays are likely become scratched, is when they're being deliberately abused, or mishandled. Otherwise, Blu-rays are very easy to clean with a soft cloth, (no solvent needed) if they're soiled from fingerprints, or other liquids.

The only time I've received anything with minor scratches on them at all, was with my first set of Star Wars. After an exchange, everything was fine. The latest Planet Earth set however? Oye. I'm on my third set so far and I STILL can't seem to get a set that doesn't have scratches on it.

A tiny scratch on The Bank Job, and Pinocchio's DVD (came with BD) and Ponyo also scratched (noticeable).

I don't know why, it was brand new sealed, maybe at the fabric or wherever they packed it weren't careful enough with the discs, at least the DVD I don't use it at all, thank god the Blu-ray Disc came scratchless.

For Pinocchio I got a refund, but Ponyo have to look into it, as I've just gotten the Blu-ray recently.

Have you tried playing the movies before you've returned them? Maybe they're only light surface scratches, on the coating itself, that doesn't penetrate through the disc entirely, to cause any major defects. The movie(s) still should play without a hitch!

I handle my discs pretty carefully and I'm pretty sure I haven't added any scratches to any discs. I did have a problem with one purchase--one of my favorite movies too--Hanna. When I played it the first time it froze during one of the best scenes in the movie--escaping the CIA facility. I was pretty bummed that I couldn't watch it but I took a look at it and noticed a scratch--or maybe just manufacturing debris. I cleaned it with a microfiber cloth and it has worked fine every since.

I've never inspected mine under a microscope, but I haven't scratched any that I'm aware of. I don't understand how people scratch up blu-rays, DVDs, and games anyway. It sits on the shelf until you watch it. You take it out of the case, put it in the player, remove it from the player, put it back in the case, and return it to the shelf. How do you scratch it during that process?

Scratched Blu-rays

I bought the 'Star Trek Original Motion Picture Collection' seven disc set used from Amazon in "good" condition, and disc one had just the smallest faint scratch that you really had to look for to see it, and disc five had a pretty deep, but tiny scratch near the very outside edge of the disc. Both of them played flawlessly. I only paid $40, so $5.71 per disc, so I am satisfied.

I also bought an open-box blu-ray player a while back, and when I got home and hooked it up and opened it, it had 'The Perfect Storm' blu-ray disc in it. Free disc! It was absolutely beat to shit. I mean, it almost looked like someone had scrubbed it with sandpaper. I watched the entire disc, and it played flawlessly. I really couldn't believe it, going by how the disc surface looks.

As far as I know, those are the only ones I have with scratches on them.

It's becoming more common when I buy brand new blu's that are sealed for them to have scratches on them. I return for an exchange about 1 in every 10 now due to scratches. The worsed offenders of it here in Australia are Roadshow and WB, and it's most common when buying collection boxsets with 3+ discs. The most recent blu movies I have bought which have had scratches on them straight out of the plastic seal are Scarface, Apocalypse Now, and all 3 discs in the newly remastered Australian Rambo trilogy boxset. Though to my surprise all the discs in the Stars Wars trilogy were perfect and so were the 5 discs in The A Nightmare on Elm St collection I bought earlier this week.

No way, 100% Scratch Free here. I handle all of my media with care. I laugh everytime Best Buy offers me scratch protection for games or whatnot.

I used to work at Gamestop and some of the games people tried to trade in were just wtf. Literally one looked like he attempted to see if it would blend.

I just have one disc with a scratch because I left it in the Blu-Ray player and one of the kids got a hold of it. The damnedest thing is, he took it out of the machine, handled it for a bit, then put it right back in the drive. I cleaned the surface, but there's a scratch where the video pauses for about five seconds before the scene continues. I practically have to everything in our home suspended from the ceiling in order to keep the kids away from it, and even then they're determined to find a way to reach it.

I've never fallen for that either

Ifs it's scratched badly enough upon opening the case, I'll return it. If the scratches are barely noticeable I'll live with it (mainly to avoid paying $4 in bus fare just to take the stupid thing back).

I think one reason I'm more laid back with one or two light scratches on a BD is because I also collect vinyl records...

Now... compared to getting home and finding a pop or skip on a record i've just paid $40 or $50 for, a tiny scratch on a blu-ray (that doesn't affect playback) that I've paid between $5 and $10 for seems like a minor annoyance.

Thankfully this hasn't happened with very many records so far... fingers crossed

If you buy your discs new and take them from your case to your player and then back to the case you have no reason to have scratches. I however have gotten some scratched pretty badly from netflix.

The only markings I've ever seen on a BD I bought, were from a store that removes the discs and keeps them in plastic sleeves behind the counter. Needless to say, I don't shop there very often.

Any 2nd-hand discs I've bought from ebay, they've always been spotless.

I really can't fathom how some people manage to mark their discs, this includes my own parents. I gave my Dad my old UK copy of True Legend and the amount of finger prints on it, from simply putting it into the player and removing it. How the hell does someone do that? I actually stopped lending my folks DVDs years ago, after they ruined my Hellboy DVD, which I'd never even had a chance to put into my own player.

A girl I work with, her sister likes to wipe DVDs on her jeans, before playing them. She's under the impression, that she's cleaning them.
If she did them with one of my discs, I'd knock her out.

In my HD collection of 88 titles, I haven't got a single scratch on my Blu-rays or HD-DVDs. Some of my Blockbuster titles had a few fingerprints, but once I've cleaned them, the coating looks like new.

One scratched BD, bought used, out of a collection of over 1250 Blu-rays. The format is incredibly durable from physical damage, much better than DVD. Now the number of broken firmware updates and software problems is another matter...

I take good care of my discs. But, I bought a used one this one time that had a big scratch. It would only go to the title menue, but wouldn't play at all.

None that I can tell or notice. I take care of my collection, Blu-Ray discs, DVD's, games, ect. They go from the cases, to player, back to their respective cases. It really saddens me when I walk into my brother's room and see random media (ex: CD's, DVD's, ect) just laying around..some on the side that is read from. That's why I have an issue with letting him borrow my stuff.

No scratches...expect for Fellowship in my LOTR set that came with one little one

Nothing caused by me though. I have had some cases with chipped parts fall out though, wtf. Fortunately the discs were always secure and flawless.

Some of my dvds have marks, just from normal wear and tear. You can treat those perfectly but look under the light and you'll see some nicks here and there.
