I'll have to put in another vote for Killzone 3. I think it really is the best looking FPS out there. Tremendous detail, amazing environments -- a true warzone experience. In my opinion, it trumps the graphics of games like CoD and Battlefield.

Mmm... I don't think graphical fidelity matters to someone listing Doom amongst their favorite games in the genre.

For that matter, graphical awesomeness is (generally) not a good reason to play a game in the first place. I "like" KZ3, but have always felt that the entire series banks a little too heavily on technical prowess and not nearly enough on actually good gameplay and worldbuilding.

It's nice when eye candy is there, but at the end of the day it's still a game. If you're going to recommend a game to someone it should be because the game plays well, not because it looks great.
