After watching it today, there isn't much of an increase in picture quality over the DVD. The soundtrack does sound nice with lossless audio, albeit mono.

I thought it was a pretty hefty increase. At least an average/typical upgrade from DVD.

Not jaw dropping, but certainly significant.

Haven't watched yet but wanted to let everyone know I just picked this up at Walmart for $13. Much better than anywhere else I've seen it for.

that is a pretty good price! about the MAX I would be willing to pay (since you do get both a dvd and the Blu Ray). Amazon has only dropped to $14.99 thus far. I am still on the lookout for *"Milo & Otis" --so I need to scour all my Wal-marts.

**update** I actually found "Milo & Otis" for $8 at WM! I found one copy in a giant $10 dump bin in front of electronics--

As a child of the 70s (I was 3 when this first came out), it wasn't one of the seminal TV specials that you looked forward to seeing each year, but when it came on, you realized how much you missed it since the year before. Yep, you summed it up perfectly. This one was always a sort of a "2nd tier" Christmas special for me. The music really outshines the story and animation IMO. However there is something undeniably infectious about the way it all comes together. I was initially going to skip out on this one but I just can't. It brings back too many childhood memories.

A little off topic but one thing I have to say, part of what made watching these specials each year so great were all the great Christmas time commercials that came with it! Whether it be a spot for McDonalds Christmas Gift Certificates (remember the one with a very young Corey Feldman??), the Coca Cola commercial where everyone is holding candles and positioned in the shape of a Christmas tree, York Peppermint Patty, Almond Joy/Mounds Candy, Radio Shack, etc. While watching all these specials on blu ray is great, I have to admit a little something is lost without those classic commercials IMO.

Yeah, they have TTNBC @ WM for $13...but, I ended up getting the (1970)"SCROOGE" for $15 @ WM instead (the Albert Phinney version)

I almost forgot about this special, but I'm going through a nostalgia phase and this one fits the bill as a childhood favorite. I just bought it on Amazon for less than $10 and it still comes with a slip.

The shrink-wrap is outside the slip, so that might help -- plus it's probably not been a huge seller, regretfully.

So the slip is shrink-wrapped to the bd case? I don't remember mine being like that but then again that was 5 years ago lol. So there is a good chance slipcovers will be available

Ordered this from Amazon the other day for $13 and I received it today. Unfortunately, the slipcover and blu-ray case were smashed so much so that tiny blue plastic pieces were falling out of the shrinkwrap. It was horrible!! We ordered a replacement but if it's also damaged, I'm refunding my money and ordering from Best Buy. Crazy thing is, the Jack Frost (Rankin-Bass) DVD we got from Amazon was fine and dandy! Amazon has damaged almost every single movie I have bought from them for the last 8 years for me. It's ridiculous they put the movies in envelopes instead of boxes!!

My goal this is to get as many Rankin-Bass Christmas cartoons as possible!!

i think i have all rankin bass-like you i love them.also have every christmas special i love every christmas movie i love i hate to be at the mercy of a network.plus watching them on a hot summer day is fun.hell anytime is fun
