I think I'll wait till the 4K remaster comes out. I find the picture way too grainy for my liking, though some say that it's the director's intentions. . .

I sold my S1-3 blus off in anticipation for that.

I am positive that S1-3 and 5 are the same pressing as their US counterpart.

Originally, S1-2 came out at the same time and were supposed to be region A,B,C (as was stated on their back covers, falsely). However, they were indeed locked Region A. S3 was released in Jun 2011 and I was very upset that Australia only had a DVD release (which I subsequently bought).
Eventually, S1-3 were released in Australia simultaneously (November 2011), the first country outside of the US to have a BR release. I bought them all, even though I purchased 1-3 on DVD (Blu-Rays are way better than upscaled DVDs).

I have just checked the review of S3 and the extras are exactly the same as I remember them (having watched S1-4 recently, just before S5 was released) The screenshots of the menu for the US S3 review is exactly the same as the Australian disc.

S1 also is the same as the US review extra specs. Right down to the same 1080p trailers as the US release. And again, checking the screenshots, the same menu as the OZ release. And just to be sure, I checked out S2 and same again (trailers, extras, same menu).

S5 US is region free. Having checked out the extras in the review, I am positive S5 also has the same extras, disc for disc, as the Australian release.

Sanity has November 28 as the release date for Breaking Bad: The Final Season, which will be great for those of us who have bought each release individually (although the Complete Series box set does look way cool).

You'll be waiting a LOOOOOOONG time if you think they're going to start releasing what will be catalogue TV series in 4K. Only a handful of series have been filmed in 4K (House of Cards being one of them) and only a couple of series are being finished in 4K (two series are being filmed by 3net). Most TV shows these days have been finished at 2K resolution and are likely to stay that way for a long time, possibly forever.

As for being grainy, I'm not sure why you'd think 4K would fix that. 4K has nothing to do with the level of grain. It will simply resolve the detail (and any grain) better but it will not decrease the grain. If there's noise present it may assist with that but that's got nothing to do with grain and everything to do with the mastering process.

FYI according to IMDB, this was shot on 35mm.

Yeah but for finishing they do a 2K workflow so all the footage is scanned at a 2K resolution. If they wanted to do 4k release they'd have to go back and rescan all the footage and re-edit it again.

Yeah I just added that comment to open up the discussion on grain.

You say you're positive so, apologies if I'm being a pain, but do the Aus blurays definitely have all the commentaries that the US ones do? Cos I know that with the DVDs I had to buy US because for instance the US release of season 3 has commentaries on 9 episodes, while the Aus release apparently only has 5. I think the other seasons have discrepancies like that also. Just didn't know if the bluray were that way or not. Such a stupid difference and easy to overlook; pain in the ass.

Doesn't matter to me personally now though; I just preordered the complete season blu-ray set from amazon.ca for about 133aud including shipping! see the complete series thread for all the details, but it's currently only $112ca plus $8 standard or $14 expedited shipping to aus!

Season 4 in Australia has absolutely no audio commentaries on it. All 13 are missing. I sold my copy straight away and got the US release. Funnily enough I just sold all of my individuals for the box set coming out soon.

When Australia gets something first, like the UK or Canada, there tends to be no special features. For example Justified Season 4 hasn't even been announced with any release date in the U.S but it been out for some time in Australia. No special features at all though.

Well than I spose there's no benefit for me then, I hate the grain in the series *smh* though I'm pretty sure I read that Breaking Bad will be remastered in 4K a while back.

In any case I'll just wait till all 5 seasons are released with all the extras, hopefully in a boxset.

There's my Christmas present for myself.

Hefty price though, but heck it's undoubtedly my all time favourite series, so why not. (bummed I missed the Canadian price)

Does anyone know any major differences between our release and the Us one? Has anything been censored, any missing features?

I'm planning on getting the boxset posted above.
