Well, the director has said the sequel will take place somewhere around ten years after the first, so I expect that at that point, the Apes will already have started their civilization and at that point, the humans will be all but slaves.

I think with double the effects budget it may be possible to make photo-realistic apes for the sequel since the first movie came pretty close sometimes despite a reletively mediocre budget and production time.

Power struggle - Since the first movie examined the ethics of the way humans treat other apes species the second movie should reverse this and have apes in positions of power. Caesar since he was raised by humans will probably be the voice of reason while other apes after aquiring the ability to speak will favor more brutal methods to take over

The original movies potrayed Gorillas as the most aggressive and warlike of the apes and Chimpanzes as pacefists but science has shown the Gorillas are far less agressive then Chimpanzes. I hope the new series makes a more balanced effort to potray the interactions of different ape species
I konw you're a 3D lover, but one of the main reasons teh first one was a huge success was because it wasn't shot in 3D.. and a 93 million dollar budget i wouldn't call a "medicore" budget.. The special effects were top notch in this movie

It would be strange for other apes to use humans for physical labor given how weak humans are by comparison. It would be much more efficient to simply do the work themselves. Its estimated there are chimps that can bench 1200 Ibs and large adult male Gorillas that can bench over a ton

Even ten years is a pretty short period of time for apes to totally dominate. I can imagine apes creating a society separate from humans but voices of hate on both sides driving both sides to violence with Caesar acting as the voice of reason

This is very true. Some Gorillas are just beasts. Amazing how strong they are.

Very true. I'm hoping that it'll be the separate civilizations storyline as well. I think it would be interesting seeing what happens over the course of the domination. There definitely will be a war that will breakout between the rivals, putting Apes on top.

Thats absolutely absurd and baseless. If the first one was in 3D it would have generated at least 40% of sales in 3D which would have equaled at least 50 million dollars in 3D premiums which certainly would exceed the very mild cost 3D ads to production. Anytime a movie chooses not to shoot in 3D they are throwing away money

ehh I'm not going to argue with you, ive seen you argue to much on the topic of 3D, you're very sensitive about it so their is no need to get involved because this thread is about Rise of the Apes Sequel. However less people would have been interested in spending more money on this reboot if it were shot in 3D, people lost a lot of faith in this franchise after the Marky Mark one.. If this was a new movie that have nothing to do with prequel/reboot/sequel etc then maybe your 3D would have brought in that extra 40%.. Word of mouth got out quick and people went out like crazy to check it out..

One thing to consider though is why apes are so much stronger then humans. The reason is believed to be that humans have greater nerval control over our muscles. This allows us to do more subtile complex tasks like threading a needle or writting but inhibits our muscles full potential strength. If we ever end up in a life or death situation our muscles can temporarily suspend this inhibitation and allow us to summon strength we can never preform in our normal day to day lives. Hence stories of 110 Ib women being able to lift a car if there kids are trapped under it. Other apes can do all the time what we can only do in rare life or death situtations

So maybe if other ape species were to gain higher intelligence there strength would decrease as well in order to favor more subtile tasks. Just a thought.

So...it IS Battle, but without the "Beneath" mutants, then?

The movie was not in 3d and it was critically successful and appealed to an audience that wanted to see an intelligent film and didn't want to pay a premium for a gimmick they didn't need. Don't get me wrong I like 3d but you have to remember that a lot of that target audience are the older generation who grew up the apes movies and probably don't give a toss about 3d. In fact I would go as far as saying that 3d could have put some of these people off if they perceived the movie was more about special effects and less about storyline. Why argue, the film company thought it was best not to go with 3D and they decided to go without it. They know better than us.

Another post in the maddening inability for people to grasp that 3D is always an option. Those who don't like the current 3D trend could have simply opted for a 2D screening. If the movie was in 3D it wouldn't have cost the movie a single ticket sale. For everyone who boycotted the movie because it was in 3D at least another person would have seen it because it was in 3D. 3D would have made the movie a few tens of millions in premiums would have been the only result.

Why is making an intelligent film and a 3D one mutally exclusive? This is a false choice if there ever was one.

Whatever I still loved the movie in any dimension and the lack of 3D doesn't prevent me from enjoying what in my opinion is the best of the year so far. I just think the sequel being shot in 3D would make it more enjoyable. I think it would make it even better.

‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Screenwriters Talk About Speech in the Sequel

Fox is already at work pulling together a film to follow Rupert Wyatt‘s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which became a surprise audience and critical favorite this summer. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, writers on Rise, are writing the next film, which Wyatt is currently slated to direct.

We don’t know any specifics about the sequel at this point, despite the fact that Wyatt has said a lot of things about where it could possibly go. But the screenwriters recently made one comment that fans of the film might find interesting. That’s below, and I suppose it’s worth noting that really talking about their comment requires some spoilers for Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Jaffa and Silver spoke to screenwriter podcaster Jeff Goldsmith (pointed out by Bleeding Cool) and said specifically about the sequel,

Quote:
We’re working on the sequel right now, to the prequel, and so the excitement is – I’m not gonna tell you, but – are they gonna talk or not? Part of the challenge was how to get across what was happening between the apes without words. In the end I think it was a good challenge for us. It created better storytelling.
We know from the many existing films in the Apes franchise that speech eventually comes to the characters, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes ended with the lead character Caesar speaking for the first time. And while I did like the fact that Rise had to get along without the apes speaking (there was a bit of cheating with sign language and subtitles) the next film really does need to move forward with the fact that Caesar can speak. But there could be drama there, as that might position him as being closer to human than the rest of his brethren.

Oh, there’s also a seemingly jokey mention of the title for the sequel, Rise of the Planet of the Apes: Part Two. That seems unlikely, but we’ll have to wait until Fox announces something official to know that aspect for certain.

You can't throw away money that won't come out of people's pockets in the first place. Majority of 3D sequels this year have underperformed.
