Blu-ray needs to use MPEG-4 on dual layer discs too with dolby digital. Once that happens... its over.
They have Dolby Digital already, unless you're talking about one of the many new audio formats. Generally I do not like Panasonic products. I've had 2 different TV's from them, both have been just horrible. One died after 2 years, the other one, the CRT projection one, suffered from a serious Red Push issue. I am going with either Sony (the comapny that replaced my projection TV) or Pioneer.

And personally, I am very happy Sony delayed their player. I mean, yes I want it NOW! But I'd rather have them do it right with HDMI 1.3 and everything than to have it be obsolete before even hitting the market.

Remember, Blu-ray is not a one pony show (Sony),...they have tons of manufacturers backing it up, and this will soon be apparent in the coming months.
Oh don't get me wrong, I do plan to support BR in the future, provided they can actually give us top quality releases.

my panasonic products have been top notch. I've heard pioneer is good. As of right now I will get panasonic. If pioneer or sony comes along with some good features I might get their player.

This is a great point that can't be repeated or emphasized enough.

Sony has never let me down as a consumer. I have always found their products to be top notch. The current upconvert DVD model i have is IMO the best standard dvd playback i've seen. And i will wait happilly but anxiously for their BDSP-S1

Sony's receivers have a terrible, terrible reputation on the market, though.

Wow, you got lucky. I am on my third PS2, second PS1, and my Sony DVD player started to die 7 months after I bought it back in 2001, so I stopped using it for 2 years, and then it finally kicked back in Oct, along with my Sony CD player. Their players are a piece of ****, as are their video game systems.

The way they measure their output is really suspect. Like they're pulling some trick to get more power that makes the sound weaker. I really dislike their receivers.

According to DVDFile.com, the Sony player will NOT have HDMI 1.3

http://www.dvdfile.com/index.php?opt...=5498&Itemid=5

Now THAT, really sucks. Now I don't know when I'll get a blu-ray player. I mean all of these players are obsolete and they don't even come out for like 5 months!

more color i guess, but apparently the human i can't even see it. you need like special goggles to and computers to tell you the color is there. i'm sure theres a bunch more...but being that i own 4 HD tv's all with HDMI and none 1.3 this is of no concern to me at this time. I'll get a 1.3 player when i get a 1.3 tv in 3-5 yrs.

I just want advanced audio playback....anyone know if the sony will support this? I read the samsung doesn not.

I only want the HDMI 1.3 for the advanced audio formats... It's made to carry the new HD signals to recievers via HDMI 1.3 (which there are none yet...). It's not just for advanced color reproduction, you can actually read all about HDMI 1.3 here:

yeah i really want hdmi 1.3 too. The sony stuff all sounds like garbage in my opinion and is way over hyped over marketed much like BOSE. Sony es line has crazy high power ratings which don't work at all.

Ok, you bought only five of their piece of **** systems, I think you need five more to make it more obvious how much you hate them and think they suck and prove your point.

HDMI 1.3, with higher color depth support, should help eliminate the color bandings that we sometimes see on screen. The final specs just came out so I really don't expect any player this year to have it, but who knows.
