watched the series for the first time a few months ago on a blind buy of the set for like $120 (well worth it ) and it is a fantastic series.

from the jaw dropping season 1 finale, to season 2's bleak and shocking ending, all the way to the series finale (and then that "The Plan" film which didn't impress me too much ). while i felt season 3 was lacking a certain something, it was still a very great ride and i look forward to my next journey through space with the Galactica members

i remember how absolutely LIVID
[Show spoiler]Starbuck
made me in a few episodes () but her final scene in the series finale made me have to choke back tears i thought it was a very fitting and still very eerie and cryptic ending to that character arc. seems like a lot of people hate the ambiguity of it, but i loved it.

hilariously enough i thought the goal of
[Show spoiler]finding Earth
would be a season 1 arc, not something that would cover the entire series!

who's everyone's favorite character?

i think mine has to be Baltar, but a second viewing may change that.

btw a mod should spoiler tag HAMP's post. if this thread is for new people to discuss the show they will likely be pissed to accidentally see what he (and i think one or two others) have stated about characters / the series as it's not in spoiler tags!

Forgot to mention before - I absolutely HATE how Universal has their releases set up. I personally want to know as little about a show / episodes as possible and Universal always has scenes playing as the menu pops up.

Also hate how the opening theme song has scenes of the episode in them! Again, I dislike that. Of course, after the first viewing it becomes irrelevant but still.

Word of caution to those blind buyers!

I still get goose bumps when I recall the Galactica doing that free-fall into the atmosphere and launching the Vipers before jumping out of there.

I NEVER felt that kind of excitement watching a TV show before.
Oh hell yeah, that was awesome, and the effects looked SO GOOD. They must have spent a crap load of money on that scene.

I think the intention of the thread was for people who have already seen the show.. ?

My favorite character, tough choice, so many different personalities on it.. Baltar was really interesting, so I have to go with him. Although he faded away a little in season 4, he was pretty much the primary character for the other seasons.

Col. Tigh. The guy is a short-tempered, violent, skinny, old, no-nonsense, mouthy loose cannon with a drinking problem. You can't put him in charge of anything because he'll screw it up and make enemies in the process, but he's a guy you want on your side in a fight.

[Show spoiler] I mean the guy is so ruthless that on New Caprica he wasn't even out of prison for ten minutes and he was already planning suicide attacks. Also, watching him beat the crap out of Bulldog in that one episode was absolutely hilarious.

Well, I started this thread because a lot of the guys I chat with on here just got their copies and are seeing BSG for the first time - so even though the Thread title says "BSG Fan Club", it would probably be best if we tried to keep as much of the spoiler topics inside the spoiler tags... It would be nice to have a wide-open thread, but lets not ruin all the suprises for the newbies - us BSG veterans can click on a few spoiler tags, can't we?

Hi Bearcat - haven't talked BSG with you for a while!

I totally agree with you, thanks for reminding me - when I show the series to new viewers, I always tell them they MUST cover their eyes when they hear the drums beat at the end of the opening credits - That was the signal that the preview clips were showing - and there were always WAY to many spoilers in the preview scenes they show!

ATTENTION ALL FIRST-TIME BSG VIEWERS - DO NOT WATCH THE PREVIEW CLIPS IN THE OPENING CREDITS!
THEY GIVE AWAY TOO MUCH AND SPOIL MANY OF THE EPISODES!

I finally made it through the first disc without falling asleep. It starts off a little slow but that's the case with most shows, by the second episode it starts to pick up. I've been watching in 2.1 so far, can't wait to hear it in 5.1.

I have been re-watching BSG this year, only 3 episodes to go + The Plan.

First time I watched it I didn't really like season 4, I was waiting for answers about a lot of things but they never came and that left me disappointed. Now I can watch those episodes without that anticipation and they are a lot better this way.

Best part of the series for me is from the season finale of season 1 to the end of the Pegasus saga of season 2. They went from 1 great storyline to another (Kobol > Martial Law > to Kobol with arrow > Pegasus) The rest of the season 2 episodes after that were a bit boring (don't like stand-alone episodes in most shows). Then the beginning of season 3 is better again on New Caprica, but once they've left there it is back to more boring episodes. Then it picks up in quality again with the 2 part season finale. Season 4 is more balanced, good episodes mixed with some boring episodes in between.

I really like the show, not my all-time favourite but up there in my top 5. Maybe if they had told the story in 3 seasons it would have been better paced with less stand-alone episodes.

Aces: the first disk is the original 2003 Miniseries, and yes, it is slow in parts, because it has to lay all the ground work for the series - but once you get to the actual Season 1 Episodes on the second disk, "33", "Water", etc. you'll be much more satified - the series just takes off like a rocket...

I really liked Callandra (Cally) - the somewhat "overlooked" BSG Babe... She rocked in the Prison Ship Episode...

Nicki Clyne

I NEVER felt that kind of excitement watching a TV show before.
Also my favorite moment, maybe ever in TV. No TV show will capture that much excitement and suspense in a moment again.

My favorite character? Hard to say, but I was always partial to Chief Tyrol. Not sure why but he was always a great character.

I hated that too. Mission Impossible did the same thing. Did anybody catch James Callis' shout out to BSG on Eureka?
[Show spoiler]everybody was having visions and they asked James Callis' character what vision he had? He said a long legged blonde with a red dress. I fell over laughing

What the frak is going on around here? This thread kicks @$$! I am a newbie to BSG, and I am on season two now, and it is to the point where I don't even turn on my Direct TV hd DVR, my ps3, or my apple tv. I always watch BSG now. Thanks to the guys for pushing me to get it. Best $100 ever spent on blu's.

I am only on season 2, but as of right now William "old man" Adama is by far my favorite character. I like the
[Show spoiler]scene were he was boxing with Apollo, and beat the crap out of him even at his age.

Just shows why he is in command. He's such a calm cool dude even under pressure. The coolest thing about him is the way he takes control and handles even the toughest situations. My decision may change as the seasons progress, but that's it for now. Starbuck is a close second. Damn she is tough.

Absolutely.

I also thought the miniseries was slow, but I was patient and kept an open mind. Glad I stuck around, because once I saw '33', I was hooked - and it kept getting better the more I watched.

I have never been sucked into a TV show like that before.
