So DC is best with this one?

DC works better. The longer scene with Rudy attempting to escape from the motel makes more sense. Scene seems too rushed in the theatrical version plus more violence in the opening prison riot and you get to see mutiple darts thrown at Affleck. This movie got a lot of bad press but i have a real soft spot for it.

Blu-ray Grand Duke

While making sure I was spelling the title right, I just realized that Paramount now has this. Hopefully, that means we'll soon get a proper UHD release in the near future. I'm assuming they're using that train-wreck from Lions Gate for this BD. Also noticed this one comes with a digital code. Does anyone know what cut it is or if it's both? This is easily my favorite Frankenheimer film.

They haven't even touched Best Picture winners like The English Patient or Shakespeare in Love. I'm a Frankenheimer completist, so I'd buy a UHD of this in a second (ideally with both cuts and both commentaries) but it was a financial flop and only has a tiny cult following, so I suspect it's near the bottom of any list for Miramax titles to get UHDs, sadly. |

So, sadly our best hope is if another distributor with common sense and good taste (cough* Shout! or Arrow) to license it from Paramount. I know I'm still hoping Shout! will get "Tales From The Crypt: Ritual" at some point. Maybe we'll get all 3 or possibly 5 on UHD at once. Like the "Halloween" or Chucky films.

Right now, as far I know, Paramount has the contract to distribute Miramax's titles. So, they essentially decide who gets what from the Miramax titles they still have. Lions Gate has bought-up some of the Smith and Tarantino titles, so there no longer under Miramax. Unless I'm misinformed. If anything, it should be just like those who want MGM titles have to go through Warner, until their contract expire.

I think Charlize Theron is embarrassed by this movie. She claims she knew it the script was bogus and only accepted due to the director's legendary status in the industry.
For me, it's pretty average. Charlize is the best part (the sex and that gratuitous pool scene). |
