Maybe if I said WHAT IF it would come out on Blu-ray. I don't know what it is, but now every time I say WHAT IF about something it comes true, and back there I said "What if the the house blows up", and it blew up!

Sure, it happens to me too. That's why Lady Gaga had a concert on blu-ray about three months after I mention her song.

Lol at the Avatar references. Every time someone talks about "how awesome Avatar is" I have to mention how difficult it was for James Cameron to rip off this movie and Pocahontas, and then they look at me as if I was speaking a different language (Na'avi seems appropriate in this case). They get the Pocahontas reference but they always have this dumbstruck look on their face when it comes to "Ferngullywha?"

Anyway, I hope this transfer improves over the picture quality I've seen on HDTV showings from Starz Kids and Family. It only slightly improves over the DVD's PQ. I want Anastasia reference quality for this blu-ray release. You know, not Disney 5-star good, but at least it looks shiny and new like you're watching it for the very first time.

EDIT: Oh, and the cover art sucks. Why do classic Fox Animation blu-ray covers have to look like Kindergarten drawings.

Two weeks before the release and there's still no release of the official cover art for this (and Thumbelina). I really hope they don't use the cover art that was on the DVDs...

Unfortunately the above looks to be the "official" cover art.

Thumbelina is decent but FernGully is horrible. It doesn't reflect the tone of the film at all. Oh well, won't be the first or last time an animated film gets terrible cover art.

It's the first thing I thought of when I watched Avatar, it was like a deja vu moment.

You didn't get a déjà vu moment when you saw the first Iron Man? Or the second? You'd never seen a normal guy get into a compromising situation and somehow end up with super powers? Was it a big shock when you find out that there are more like him, more of these "super humans."?

To all of the Avatar haters:

We've all heard the "James Cameron ripped off his idea for Avatar. It's the exact same movie as FernGully, Pocahontas and/or Dances With Wolves." line before.

It's not a funny joke at this point, it just makes you sound uneducated and ironically, unoriginal... Which is exactly what you are complaining about, lack of originality.

It's OK to have 10 movies a year about a normal guy with extraordinary powers. It's OK to have an endless number of movies about a guy and girl who against all odds fall in love and live happily ever after. It's OK to reboot the movie about the crazy guy who kills teenagers for no reason, and then release five sequels to it.

But somehow it's not OK to use a generic plot line and put it in a world we have never seen before, because, "it's the same as FernGully and Pocahontas and Dances With Wolves."?

If you don't like Avatar, cool, nobody is forcing you to enjoy it, but nobody likes a hypocrite and that's how you come off when you complain about it's unoriginal plot and then stand in line for hours to get tickets to the fourth film in the latest superhero franchise.

That being said, I'm pretty sure this is a FernGully thread, so maybe we could bring the focus back to FernGully, rather than the films that "ripped it off."

Yeah, I'm sadly starting to believe that. But I'm still wondering why Amazon hasn't added a picture yet to those releases...

Right after I saw Avatar I mentioned to my friend how it reminded me exactly of Ferngully.
I love both Ferngully and Avatar, but too bad Cameron didn't come up with a different twist on the save the rainforest story to make it look a bit more original as I love the Avatar characters and the fantastic use of CGI and motion detection.

Wonder if this will be 9.99 at Walmart. 15.99 seems a touch spendy...I could probably live with 12.99.

I posted this in the Hot Deals section already, but I thought I'd ad it here too...

FernGully: The Last Rainforest and Thumbelina will be released on Blu-ray tomorrow 3/6/12 and are available for pre-order on JR.com for $9.99 each.

You'll have to order something for $5.01 or more to get free shipping (over $25), but I thought this was a pretty good deal for these two. They are both currently $15.99 at Amazon and if past releases are any indicator, this might be the cheapest they are for a while. The Secret of NIMH and All Dogs Go to Heaven were both released almost a year ago and have only ever dropped to $9.99 and $8.99 respectively.

EDIT: My post originally had links but for some reason they aren't working correctly, so I removed them. You should be able to find these 2 at JR.com by searching.

Hopefully there will be a review up soon or at least a user review. I'll look around elsewhere and see what I find.

Yeah, I am interested to see details on the picture quality. Like with the Don Bluth films, I am not expecting a Disney-level restoration, but hopefully there is a decent improvement over the DVD.

I ordered FernGully and Thumbelina from JR.com, but they are going to be birthday presents to me from someone else, so I won't be able to watch them until April.

Speaking of Don Bluth, I would love it if Titan AE and The Land Before Time would come out on bluray.
