How is this film? Is it worth getting?

I usually stick with CJ releases only unless they are highly regarded on IMDB or something (for films I have never seen before that is).

If you into Asian/Korean Romantic Drama and haven't already got it on DVD I'd probably say get it or at least rent it first, it isn't the best Korean Romantic Dramas out there and certainly not the worst by any means, it's very slow-paced and somehow predictable, the plot reminds me of Wong Kar-Wai's 'In the Mood for Love'. But apart from the not really inventive storyline director Hur Jin-ho unfortunately also borrows a lot of what we have already seen in his other two works, the masterpiece 'Christmas in August' and 'One Fine Spring Day', two of my favourite films, both are a must watch and own IMHO, 'April Snow' is unfortunately his weakest out of the three.

The film didn't do that well in Korea/at the box office if I remember correctly but internationally (and especially in Japan because of Yong-joon huge popularity after the big success of TV-drama-series 'Winter Sonata) it kinda boomed. Having said all that, I personally own three different DVD LE versions of it including the massive Japanese premium boxset, I will be double-dipping just to have it in my BD collection and simply because Son Ye-jin is in it

Really want One Fine Spring Day on Blu. There isn't really a decent DVD of it either.

Is the upcoming Blu-ray release going to have the Director's Cut version - or just the regular release ?

By the way, I do see on the YesAsia listing that it will also have some extra bonus features and an audio commentary. It is not my favorite movie but I am going to get it - especially because Son Ye Jin is in it. I hope that also this one will be a region-free release like the rest of the CJ Entertainment releases from South-Korea. If anyone can also tell me what DVD release(s) of this movie would be interesting looking into (best release, most extra, Dir. cut, etc.) ?

From what I found about about the Director's Cut version is that it is (as far as I know) only to find in the Japanese special DVD release called "April Snow Director's Cut Complete Edition" that was released on 21st. September 2006. This is about 30 minutes longer version which tells more in-depth about the love story between In-su (Bae Yong-joon) and (Seo-young) Son Ye-jin with completely new scenes, extended scenes, and even the ending of the film is portrayed with far more certainty than in the original theatrical release.

The Korean Blu-ray is only 107 minutes (original theatrical version), while the Director's Cut version is 140 minutes. By the way, the Japanese Director's Cut DVD does not have English subtitles....
