I've never been interested in watching it, but that changed the second I read this thread. That's happened a lot with movies I never planned on watching. Suddenly they're given the ultimate upgrade and I salivate at the thought of watching a movie I've never seen in high definition with all the extras. May not be day one for me but I'll get it eventually.

No, but it did cover an important historical time that affected my family. My mothers side being Jewish moving from the UK, and my fathers side moving during the war, being forced to leave Holland.

It's a very important story, but there are millions of equally important stories about the Holocaust that deserve to be told. The least we can do is honor this one.

I don't know how to respond to this. Are you saying I'm required to watch it because of It's historical importance?

Saw the DVD with the US 100th Anniversary slip. So I am assuming they are working on a better release for the Blu? Will it also come with the 100th Anniversary slipcover?

When available, will definitely pick this up. Great performances by the whole cast. It is a depressing movie, but it is one that should be revisited every few years to remind us about the things we take for granted.

Required is a strong word. You expressed interest in checking it out, so I thought I'd chime in.

Well the premise doesn't interest me. The Holocaust isn't interesting to me, but that doesn't mean I don't recognize It's impact and importance. I'll buy the BD but It'll probably sit sealed on my shelf for years unwatched. So many movies I'd rather watch.

I would almost require it to be seen in highschools, with the parents permission of course. You cant be immature though, watching this movie. I could see some kid " Eww look at that ladies boobies, gross!!" It a very authentic movie. Liam though OWNS this role. Hes so smooth in this.

The Liam Neeson character development is quite complex for high school students who may not be familiar with the Holocaust, so I'd prefer to require something like The Pianist, or just to stick to texts and documentaries. As you suggest, high school kids are probably not mature enough to understand and digest what they're seeing.
[Show spoiler]By the time Schindler breaks down near the end and realizes he should have been doing more all along, his "smoothness" should be seen differently.

There's no reason this wont fit onto a single 50gb disc. Fanny and Alexander by Criterion is 5 hours long and fits very nicely on one disc..

For what it's worth the story revolves around a
[Show spoiler]Nazi industrialist who saves his workers from certain death and becomes the hero of the film. The movie is not about death and destruction but about the survivors of a
group of people.

There's a little bit more to the ending than that but I hope no one spoils it for you because it's moving. I remember being in the audience when it came out. Lots of sniffles in the theatre.
