I doubt Universal is willing to spring for the cash needed to them correctly (let alone release them on bd). Which is completely sad and frustrating.

Here's a couple of screen caps from BRIDES OF DRACULA (similar though not exact) - from a recent TCM broadcast compared to dvd cap:

dvd

TCM

Not bad, but it's "off" -- not quite what they ought to be.
Love spot the difference... Don't tell me ... The side burn is more curly in the bottom picture, the decanter is more full and a button is missing on her dress

Right ?

Who owns the rights to The Satanic Rites of Dracula?

I know Anchor Bay had them in the US briefly but this title now seems to be public domain, hence no one has given it a decent anamorphic release on DVD. God knows who will end up releasing a Blu-ray of it.

You're right about it being public domain. I watched it last October as it was on one of the Elvira's Movie Macabre DVDs...bloody awful movie! If Hammer did release a blu ray, I think it would be a while off - it wouldn't be a priority I don't think.

Digital Fix's news announcement for DPoD has images from the new transfer:

http://homecinema.thedigitalfix.com/...-in-march.html

They don't specifically state whether they're from the bd or whichever, but still worth checking out.

I hope they are just overly compressed caps and do not reflect the actual transfer because they look nasty! No detail whatsoever.

There is zero chance Studio Canal leaves their Hammer releases region-free. The people behind the restorations will want to license them to an American company for quick cash. That would 100% entail locking the SC releases to Region B.

Yes! I would particularly love Theater Of Blood!

And I would kill to get Brides of Dracula & The Vampire Lovers on Blu!

Yes, The Gorgon & The Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb in the Sony Hammer DVD box both look fantastic, sharp picture & solid colours. On the box it says, mastered in high definition. I'd think a Blu-ray would look just about perfect, but if Sony can't be bothered to release Picnic or Mysterious Island on Blu, then they're not going to release these. I'd think it would be an expensive Twilight Time release. It would be great if they were released as a double bill, that's how I saw them in the UK when they were released many years ago.

This looks like cause for concern.

Any word on the first Christopher Lee-Dracula film? I have "Prince Of Darkness" pre-ordered (which i've never seen) but that's the third in the series if I remember correctly.

Hammer are saying this year still but no definite date. DPOD is the natural follow-on from Dracula, although Brides Of Dracula was their second 'Dracula' film.
