Me too, though the first time I watched House of the Devil, I thought the last 10mins or so seemed a bit 'off' from the rest of the movie. But after a second viewing, the ending didn't bother me as much.

The Innkeepers I enjoyed, but the ending..yeah, I have issues with it also. Some things just don't make sense or maybe I missed something.

[Show spoiler]At the end her co-worker says he was banging on the door and she called his name. I assume he meant the door that she had previously chained/locked up since I thought the now deceased guest was at the door she bolted. But I don't recall any banging on the door or hearing him yell back to her, etc.

[Show spoiler] i assumed that she was seeing the dead guy, yes. she locked the door behind her and was so wrapped up in the ghosts that she didnt hear her friend yelling, as he was the one actually banging...however, i dont recall her ever calling his name...she was just yelling for help..maybe she said his name, cant remember...

the question i have...

the guy that killed himself in the room...i assume that he was the husband who left the lady at the altar?

is the only reason the medium told her not to go into the basement because the ghosts actually was down there or because she just saw the events before they happened, like she mentioned? and why didnt she again tell her not to go in the basement the 2nd time???

I loved this film and never expected that I would - with Ti West directing, and the well-worn concept of ghosts at its heart, I thought it would be some gore-fest centred around a pseudo-Paranormal Activity style idea. I loved the downplayed atmosphere, the characters were relatable and well-rounded and the ambiguity when it came to the actual ghost idea was superb - you never quite know whether it's real or all imagined which, in my head, was an idea that could have greatly increased the aforementioned PA's power. One of my favourite ghost story films, behind The Orphanage and The Others, and definitely a director to watch from now on.
