HMV update
Drive is 24.99 (also contains a digital copy, which I didn't see in any online listings)
Malcolm X is 29.99
To Kill a Mockingbird is 19.99 (cheapest price I've seen)

Walmart's price for Transformers DOTM 3D is $34.93. Picked it up from a Vancouver Island store earlier today!

MALCOLM X IS 22.99 @ HMV! Sorry for yelling.. hah Change the 1st post please. Saw it in-store today after having Future Shop price-match it when I was getting Drive. Is also 22.99 on their website.

HMV also has the digibook limited edition of Mockingbird for 29.99, which is cheaper than everywhere else I think.

Sorry, but Malcolm X WAS 22.99 at HMV. Yes, I even saw that myself yesterday when I checked; but when I checked this morning, the website price was raised to $29.99, and when I went to the store, $29.99 as well.

Not BD related, but has anyone seen the Underworld:Awakening soundtrack for less than $16.93? I've only seen it @ WM and HMV ($16.99) today.

Well then I suggest that anyone who wants Malcolm X on blu-ray should race to their nearest HMV stores since my store was literally tagged at 22.99. Some stores may have tagged after the price changed in their system.

HMV Regent in Winnipeg has 1 copy, priced at 22.99 right now.

Might be too late, but you should have got it from Amazon.uk for 14.25 CDN roughly or 12.61 + tax essentially.

God Damn Futureshop would not accept the 10 dollar Coupon I had off Transformers.

Manager said they will not accept it because it is not in there system.

Bullshit.

Anyone have the Office of the president e-mail to futureshop.

I am getting sick and tired of there stupid policies which none of them understand.

I know what you mean. BB/FS have some of the worst customer service going. Even calling head office out in British Columbia won't merit any results as I have tried this before. They leave everything to manager's discretion which you think would be the wrong thing to do for a chain operation. They should have one policy that all stores are to follow. None of this "we make up our own rules as we see fit" bullcrap. I feel for ya.

Someone asked about The Double. Saw it at WM for $21.93 and at BB/FS for $22.99.

+1

Future Shop is a front for Best Buy Canada, and Best Buy Canada's management goes way out of their way NOT to hear from or about customers like you.

They've created an elaborate artificial customer service layer that is actually an external facade set up to take your complaints and bury them.

If you call or email Best Buy Canada or Future Shop, it never reaches the actual company or executives, it gets caught in this external fish net.

I too have experienced arbitrary and incompetent managers in their chain and I've had some significant issues that did get escalated. However I learned that Best Buy/Future Shop uses a bizarre method of recirculating escalated complaints back to the manager and store you are complaining about. And no surprise, they will assess their own conduct and deem themselves not to be at fault. Great system isn't it?

If you keep escalating beyond that - which they make extremely hard to the point of impossible - then you get to a regional person who is accountable for these problems. And guess what, they self-assess as well, they claim those working below them are perfect, and they too will scramble to bury your issue.

If you can actually reach someone in head office, a president, or someone who actually cares about customers, let me know. I've searched and found they don't seem to have anyone that meets that description.

You guys have posted this stuff before, and quite frankly I don't see it.

Sure, they have their problems, just like any other major retailer their size, but they have also done very proactive things with the customers and gone of their way to correct mistakes.

Did they not honour everyone's recent $14 DRIVE order price? Did they not honour everyone's $18 LOTR price? Did they not bring custom movie and gaming SteelBooks for everyone at the request of forum members?

Don't know what particularly you guys are expecting, when you 'try to email the President or CEO', but if you are trying to get someone fired by simply writing an email, that won't cut it.

And if you are complaining because someone didn't do a PM, or accept a coupon, you are probably not ruffling anyone's feathers but your own.

Just do what I do and go to another store. It's true that some store are more capable than others, and if you happen to be only near one that sucks, then I guess you're SOL.

This is really all that needs to be said.

Not that the complaints about FS and BB don't have their merit, but if you really think they're the retail equivalent of Nazis, don't give them your business. Complaining incessantly about a business, yet still giving them money is like continually going back to the wasp nest looking for honey.

The point is that just because you attend a location that's properly run, doesn't help the rest of Canada who doesn't have that. A chain should run with universal, legal, consistent standards. Just because "Great" Greg gets good treatment doesn't excuse the thousands of others they mistreat.

You make it sound like they deserve a medal or fanboy-ism simply for obeying the law and honoring their advertised prices. Sorry, but I don't grant awards for people or companies who do the minimum, and only do so when the media is watching.

What we want is simple honest adherence to consumer law and their own stated policies. If they did that, there'd be no reason to escalate.

And if you are complaining because someone didn't do a PM, or accept a coupon, you are probably not ruffling anyone's feathers but your own.

To use your language, yes, Canadian consumers are indeed s*** out of luck.

We allowed Best Buy to create a massive and overwhelming monopoly. Do some reading and you'll learn that Future Shop is actually a front of Best Buy Canada. So while you naively advise people to stroll across the street to patronize another store you aren't realizing you're still sending us straight into a Best Buy front operation.

Back when they were building their monopoly, they did have good policies, they honored them, and they had good management that listened, cared, and was dynamic in making changes. Now that the dominance is overwhelming, it's become the opposite.

The fact you are a fan of your local store does give some hope that it is possible for a Best Buy/Future Shop location to operate in a customer friendly manner. But such stores seem to be getting fewer and farther between.

It's no wonder, since the current top executive have concentrated on constructing an iron wall between themselves and customers, it certainly sends a message to the people they lead: "We hate customers and besides their money, we want nothing to do with them."

They have a huge infrastructure of call center, internet and email set up expressly to deflect customers off to a third party and keep true customer feedback from ever reaching them.

Your comparison to that regime is extreme but probably not far off :-)

However Best Buy also operates Future Shop and together they have a massive monopoly over Canadians so we don't actually have the freedom to choose. We have to choose either wasp nest or hornet's nest. As for the honey, they keep it.

All of this debate wouldn't be happening if this rich and powerful chain actually did keep their promises. Why are you dumping on customers who got mistreated when you could put your voice to some worthwhile purpose and call upon Best Buy to improve how they operate?

Yes, I do know that Best Buy owns FS at a corporate level, but FS is allowed to operate as a separate entity.

Even still, I do not see them operate in Canada as a monopoly. There are many choices here in Canada that do not involve either retailer. The only monopoly FS or BB have is on movie or game exclusives.

Other than that, we all know there are many places to buy our movies and games (and computer hardware and televisions, etc.).

But hey, I don't work for FS or BB, so go ahead and hate 'em if you want.
