OP, looking forward to your impressions.

I have also been considering a 93 for a while. Still unsure what upgrade(s) it gives me over the Samsung BDC6900 that came with my 3D TV when it will be routed, via HDMI, through my Yamaha receiver. Isn't video and audio quality limited to how good the guts of your receiver are, compared to the Oppo? (ie. if the AVR is lesser in those categories, you effectively lose the benefits of the Oppo)

Don't have an Oppo but I can set my receiver to video pass through. In other words, it simply sends the signal through it has received from the player (and the player and your tv will determine the PQ).

Audio quality is of course also determined by your AVR but the Oppo's sound quality will come into play when you use the analog sound output (then it will use it's internal DAC which vary in quality among Blu-ray players and are apparently quite important to the quality of the sound).

Hope this helps.

I was over at AVSforum.com and stumbled upon this and thought i would share it:

"Yes, it is likely that we will see the release of new product later this year. We have not announced anything yet, so unfortunately we cannot be any more forthcoming"
Are there any upcoming shows they would be likely to show the new model?

Curious as to what it would add.. maybe it will drive the price down of the Oppo-93 here. I do remember a post where they mentioned they have release a new product in the past every 18-24 months and that they never show something on CES (they are merely there for networking, not an actual stand or something of that kind it seems).

I took some Unboxing photos. They are in my HT Gallery if anyone is interested. So far i've only tested the player out. Blu-rays look amazing (like they should). And DVD's look way better then i've ever seen! Also for Oppo owners out there. Anyone know a good site or post or what-have you about custom setting for the player? I'd like to make sure i'm getting the best it can do, but not sure where to start. Thanks!

i just got mine in today and within minutes had it up and going... the user manual they include is very extensive and should be able to answer most if not all of your questions... i have hdmi1 on my tv connected to hdmi1 on the oppo and the hdmi2 on the oppo is connected to the audio input on my receiver... with it hooked up this way your tv will handle the video and the receiver will handle the audio without the added stress of the video since the tv is handling that... i am watching kill bill vol 1 right now and the audio is insane... much better than it has ever sounded and my receiver is barely warm, usually it gets pretty hot while watching blu's, atleast it did with my sony bd player... i must say so far i'm really digging this player

I sadly haven't been able to enjoy my Oppo yet... I'm in a heat wave... It's to hot to do anything. I can hardly be in my house, let alone watch a movie.

Curious if this applies to every BD player which has 2 HDMI outputs. As my receiver also gets really hot when I use the PS3..

I have a few questions.

1. Does the OPPO BDP-93 run as hot as the PS3?
2. Does the OPPO BDP-93 can be bought already modified to play all regions?
3. What are alternative 3D BD Players to consider if the Oppo can't be
optained?

I'd appreciate any assistance.

I've never heard of it getting hot
As on 9Th of august, oppo had some keenly priced refurbished 95

My belief is that players are sold untouched-The mod kits that are external are easy to fit/remove. The internal ones are solder free-Have a look at bluraychip.dk A new firmware is due soon, possibly a week, to correct oppo's new firmware

Thank you for your reply. I am considering making the jump from the PS3 to the OPPO (if my finances agree with me).

I decided to look into a BD player cuz the PS3 gets really hot and I think I been overworking it these last few weeks.

I know that a lot of members here recommend it and thats why Im here. Thank you once again.

Do check out oppo's refurbished 95, they are cheaper than an untouched 93 and have a proper waranty.

With regard to your ps3, if you can, see if you can get the case open to give it a good blast with a can of compressed air/ air duster

it is all well and good banging the table for a pre- modded player, but if nobody has any, then buying the mod kit else where might be the only option.

'I believe' that the current oppo players are no longer in production.
Even the internal mod kits only need the ability to know left from right in order to fit one

http://www.220-electronics.com/dvd/O..._code_free.htm

http://www.world-import.com/oppo-bdp...ay-player.html

http://www.bombayelectronics.com/Opp...regionfree.htm

There are others. They're all pretty competitive and you don't pay that much for the modification.

Gents,
Do read first before posting in haste, the one at world import is only region free for dvd, it clearly says plays blu-ray from region a, caveat emptor

As I said before, can you guarantee that the other two merchants will have stock when our colleague is ready to buy

They also have an all region blu-ray player. I knew that because I researched and debated with myself what I would buy for months. But I made a mistake and posted the wrong link. I have corrected the post.

Don't be silly. No, I can't guarantee anything. I'm not those stores. But I would expect they will have them in stock. Why wouldn't they? Do you think they still have these listed on their sites because they don't have them any more? The Oppo 93 and 95 are still in production as far as I know. So why wouldn't they still be getting them and modifying them?

I got mine from 220 Electronics, BTW, for a very good price by doing some price matching with 220's lowest price minus $20 guarantee (not certain they still have that; yes, they still have it; it's on this page: http://www.220-electronics.com/dvd/m...dvd_player.htm). And I couldn't be happier with the player.
