This pretty much says it all.

I used to play some Doom 95 or something like that, back in the day though.
But I kind of passed on Doom 3... that gigantic hit one... it was never really my kind of thing.
So I decided I should just have it and have played it, being so into games and stuff too, it IS a classic.
There was a doc featurette on the History of the Game--
And since I didn't have OS9 yet and hadn't played Doom 3, I had no idea what #3 was about...And when i found out, "Aw, crap, it's a linear game with a plot?" that took all the maze-crawling POV fun out of it.

Doom II, OTOH, had those customizable fan-made packs of levels and sound effects, etc., that you could download-till-you-drop off of the Internet.
I remember playing fan-made level megapacks for hours with a Star Trek, MST3K or Rocky & Bullwinkle sound-FX pack.
(End of level: Rocky-"At this rate we'll never win!" - Bullwinkle-"We'll be lucky to lose!")

Doom is in no way a masterpiece, but if I had the lead role in say, Taxi Driver or Star Wars and was offered a cameo in Doom, I would definately do it.

Now, if I was somewhere in the center of the Human Centipede, I might decline the cameo in Doom.

I've loved Doom since I was a kid.

The story wasn't exactly the same, but it was done well.

I have been waiting for a sequel or reboot. Was Doom really such a flop?
There's apparently a 3D reboot in the works.

Will it be interactive? Cause then you basically have another game. :P

Please have the demons from hell this time. Space marines vs. hellspawn. It's a simple concept.

I actually liked Doom as well - as other have mentioned it's not a masterpiece of high art but for what it is, a loud action / scifi flick I think it does a good job.

I remember a few years back when the Rock was inducting his father into the WWE Hall of Fame. He made a joke about John Cena and his movie "The Marine". Then while everyone was still laughing, he looked at Cena and said "Hey, I was in 'Doom'!" in a very self-mocking way. So even he knew how bad it was.

This is probably why it's a reboot as apposed to a sequel.

I get the feeling a lot of studios thinks to themselves; "Man, I wish 3D was in when we made (insert movie name)!" I heard a rumour about The Matrix 4. Wasn't that story summed up pretty nicely in the trilogy?

I felt Doom did somewhat touch on the demon thing with that whole extra chromosome that represented the soul or whatever and it turned folks demony and those "good at heart" people, of whome Urban is the only one in the world, into superhuman "angels".

Yep, far from the concept of Doom, which probably would have gone down really well if done right. Still, it was a great Res Evil movie!
