If Disney doesn't release any of the other films over here I'll probably cave and import the Japanese versions of my favourites, but I won't be able to get them all. Definitely want Spirited Away and Kiki when they're released, possibly Howl's. Castle in the Sky doesn't have the dub anyway, so that's a pass.

I plan to pre-order Arrietty when I can. Hope to go see the film tomorrow, so it won't be a blind buy at least.
Castle in the Sky has the dub on the JP disc if that's what you mean. All of them except Arrietty do.

I hope that that is not the case!

It would be a shame to have only "tested the waters" with Nausicaa, and then deny all North American fans (who don't want to or can't import) the chance to get the rest. If that is the case, one would hope they would just sell the home video licenses to another company to better utilize, such as how they sold the theatrical rights to the back catalog to GKIDS, who are now hosting a Studio Ghibli Retrospective around the US.

I'm really hoping to see something released alongside Arrietty, but even if we don't get a title, I still think Disney will put them out eventually. I just hope that they aren't going by a "one Ghibli Blu-ray a year" release plan or something. We only got Nausicaa in 2011 and I'd hate for Arrietty to be the only one of 2012.

When I said that, I meant including all three dubs (English, UK English, and Japanese) in the blu-ray, giving those who are curious about the difference, a choice.

No need to be a dick about it.

The UK dub was done by Studio Canal, i.e., a completely different studio than Disney. They aren't in cahoots so you're not gonna be hearing that dub on the US release. Really unfortunate as I'd love to hear Mark Strong as Pod and Saoirse Ronan as Arrietty (even though I thought Will Arnett and Bridgit Mendler did great jobs).
Having said that, I rarely listen to the dubs as I prefer the original Japanese when watching Ghibli films. But the Disney dubs are fine to listen to in the theater.

Ah, I didn't know that. Unfortunate, but understandable.

Thanks for the info.

Or just give us something like this - all in bluray going out to the latest film (I can wish can't I). On a side note this collection does not look legit. 18 films on 4 dvd's?

Well, it says 100% Authentic/Genuine Malaysia Edition.

That's 100% now, not any of that 50-50 stuff.

It's 100% bootleg. Might as well just pirate the movies.

Man the quality must be bad to have that many films on 4 dvd's. Well, the point I was trying to make was I would love to have a bluray box set including many if not all the studio ghibli collection - sort of like the upcoming Bond collection.

Ah, I see. According to yesasia and amazon.co.jp, the English dub wasn't listed in audio. However, after doing further research it's actually under the special features menu? So I guess I won't write that one off after all.

Crunchyroll and The Fandom Post are reporting a June release date and reference the Amazon placeholder page, but I don't see where they got that from?

Saw this is theaters and like every Ghibli film I really loved it. I don't think it was as grand as "Spirited Away" (which is a biased opinion for me as that film introduced me to the Ghibli), but it was a lot more entertaining than "Ponyo" (which I did enjoy). I can't wait to pick this up on blu, even if the three lone blu's that have been released in the US look really funky next to the 15-odd DVD titles.

It sounds about right, though Ponyo took 7 months to get to blu. I'm fine with a 4 month wait.

I know someone said before that this wouldn't do anything, but I urge all Studio Ghibli fans to contact Disney and ask them to please release additional titles alongside Arrietty.

I know one or two comments don't amount to a hill of beans to Disney, but maybe if they see a steady stream of the same thing, they'll pass long something to those higher up.

I think it might be worth it to mention you're considering importing if they keep holding back titles (even if you aren't). Nothing lights Disney's fire like the fear of losing a sale!

From Anime News Network:

Quote:
The AV Watch website reported on Wednesday that the North American Blu-ray Disc of The Secret World of Arrietty (Karigurashi no Arrietty) film will include both the American English dub and the British English dub. According to AV Watch, it will also have the Japanese dub and Japanese subtitles, but no bonus video extras.
