DNR stands for Digital Noise Reduction.

It's a process that's sometimes applied to films to remove film grain, giving it an apparent glossy, fresh look. However, by removing the film grain you remove the detail from the image, which is the very reason HD exists, to be able to see detail that isn't clear in SD.

Predator was given a second Blu-ray in 2010 called the Ultimate Hunter Edition, but sadly it was smeared with DNR all over the image, giving it a very waxy and artificial look. So this is why some, such as myslef, are cautious about getting this steelbook, because it could turn out to be the DNR version.

The ultimate Hunter edition this one: http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/4-/1...rlrefer=search has had Digital Noise Reduction (DNR) applied. This process removes noise, but as film grain is recognised by the process as noise, it removes that too, which makes the picture look glossy, shiny, smooth, which this film isn't. Thus why the first released Blu-ray back in 2008, is considered to be the closest match to what was filmed.

If something has been heavily DNR'd faces in particular tend to look extremely waxy and almost 'perfect' in the sense that fine detail such as wrinkles and fine hairs etc aren't present. In addition to this, DNR removes grain from the master as grain is defined as noise. In the case of the UH Edition of Predator most of the grain is removed and the fine detail that comes with it is such removed as well. Therefore, if the disc in the Steelbook is the UHE, then it will be the DNR'd transfer.

This probably wouldn't have happened if they hadn't moved the first steelbook thread out of the steelbook section....

So I don't blame the OP for posting a dupe thread when the original isn't in the right place to begin with.
