A couple of Dean Koontz adaptations that spring to mind;

Lighting
The Bad Place

Also would like to see;

The Forever War
The Man in the High Castle
The Time Ships
Anti-ice

And, finally, as my sig suggests...

I know a lot of John Grisham's work has been filmed and he has had a problem with some of the adaptations, but I'd love to see The Bretheren made into a movie.

Already done. In the 70's, and then later by Disney in 2004, although neither were very faithful adaptations.

Term Limits by Vince Flynn.

I know from his recent promo tours that CBS Films have the rights to his Mtich Rapp character, which has 10 books or so... But judging from what he has said in local radio, the studio is in over its head... And if they don't move on the property in the next few months the rights go back to Fynn.

I really hope they get "Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson up in running. Leonardo Di Caprio was tagged as the main character but then it was dropped from his imdb page and now shows the movie is in development with no one associated with it. It was a really good book and should translate into a really disturbing film if done right. A dark tale of a charismatic good looking man who would lure women to their death and take their fortune under the disguise of the worlds fair in Chicago. Its based on a true story.

Nice! I thought about mentioning those too.

Absolutely. It's kinda sad to see that so many great books by so many great authors have never yet been adapted to film. What sci-fi we have in cinema is often times great, but more often than not, it doesn't even compare to the immensity and imaginative force of literary sci-fi.

Actually, there's a rather big legal cahoodle around this one, it was supposed to have been made back in the 50's, when they made Salinger's Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut, they made a huge mess around it, so Salinger refused the rights to Catcher in the Rye. And still refuses to give them away today, with him deciding in the late 50's that he'll give the rights to all his products to his wife and daughter as a sort of insurance.

There's this really amazing, beautiful gay-themed book called Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman from a few years ago that I would die to see adapted. If done right it could easily be an award-caliber film. Would like to see someone like Tom Ford or Joe Wright direct it. The book made the New York Times' list of the year's Most Notable Books. Such a great and powerful read. I remember having to go to work after finishing it and I was in such a funk for the rest of the day. It ruined my day , but I wouldn't have it any other way.

There already was a great "no compromise" adaptation of 1984, released in the year 1984. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087803/

An adaptation of Dune was also released in the year 1984, but it was very flawed, so I can understand putting that on the list. I was going to suggest Brave New World myself, as it's only been adapted for television, as far as I know.

There was also a play encompassing the entire town of Niagara-on-the-Lake (where I live). My dad says it was awesome (I was unfortunately not born yet). The whole town had "Freedom Is Slavery. War Is Peace. Ignorance Is Strength." posters all over.

I wish they'd film a faithful version of 'War of the Worlds'. A period piece. No floating alien ships. A proper face off with ironclads and tripods.

It would be great if someone tried to bring to the big screen The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay, a extremely overlook Canadian writer.

??
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0486655/

And if you wonder, the adaptation has received Gaiman's approval, as he recognized that it would nearly be impossible to do a "perfect" translation in a big budget movie (the audio book alone had 10 and 1/2 hour of materials made).

Love both the illustrated novel and the film btw
