Do the voices all come out of the front three speakers at the same time?

Thanks,
Tom

Not sure if other people have noticed this about the PQ, but last night I noticed that in every new scene in the movie, the picture would be 720p quality maybe and then a half a second later adjust itself to 1080p. Now I will be testing this out on other blu-ray players to see if anything is different. Surely a minor gripe but I guess I can live with it.

Please look into this! I'm on the fence about purchasing this release. Are you sure it's not just the bit-rate changing or grain spiking?

@VW Driver--that effect is due to the original editing techniques of Cinemascope, not anything about the disc. I used to notice that effect on dvds of certain older films all the time and it drove me crazy, but that's just the way it is. I used to refer to it as the "leader in blurriness" or some such stupid phrase.
(once you've noticed it get ready to notice it more often in the future; you can see it in action on An Affair To Remember bd also, and many other scope films of the era)

.

Thanks for the reminder. His description of the issue was poor. Since I had just read some articles on poorly mastered BDs, I automatically assumed "authoring error!". So I completely forgot about the rough transitions. I've seen so many titles with the blurry dissolves that I just don't notice them anymore.

They're opticals, that's why they're blurry and of lesser quality. If you don't know what an optical is I suggest Google. Every film of that era has the same thing unless the opticals were cut in short, which means the optical itself only lasts for the actual length of the dissolve or fade, then you'll see a little "bump" while it goes back to production photography.
