Yeah, the trailer was really well done.

Am I the only 3D fan who HATE HATE HATES this tradition of converting new films to, dare i say it, "3D"? I just can't convince myself that what I'm watching is in 3D, good conversion or not. Personally, as a 3D fan, I'm only interested in watching natively shot 3D. That's where the "wonder" of the stereoscopic image shines through.
With regards the trailer, how short people's memories are. Didn't the John Carter trailer look "incredible" and yet the actual "3D" in the movie sucked big time? Just a thought.

Gae
I hear what you're saying about 2D conversions to 3D, but I just pretend I'm watching a pop up book and all of my concerns that it was post 3D fade away, provided the movie is good and I overlook the errors here and there.
At the same time, the biggest issue I have with post 3D is the warping seen around 3D objects, evidence of in-fills where they fill in the blanks with imagined scenery.

If possible, it'd be nice if all movies were filmed 3D, but that isn't going to happen as long as there is money to be made converting new and older 2D films.
John Carter had really good depth between the layers. In my book, that's why I think the 3D in it looks so good, excluding errors.

I do find myself scrutinizing the image instead of just sitting back and enjoying the movie if I know that the movie is a conversion ahead of time, especially if the story isn't very engrossing. Personally, I thought John Carter was one of the best conversions I've ever seen though. //

Hollywood 3D conversions are here to stay though, and I'm okay with that. Every big-budget native 3D film has at least a few converted sequences where they had to fix footage that wasn't captured properly or didn't work as well in 3D as they had hoped. //
Well said. I agree.

Good point. It all comes down to the distance the cameras are apart from each other during the filming of 3D. Post 3D can extend it as far as they want, but then have to fill in the empty offsets more.

Good to hear. It really boils down to the post stereo 3D director deciding how much work they want to do. The stronger the 3D, the more it will cost, as they'll have to do a lot more work filling in the missing spots the farther apart the 3D is.

I hope Avengers 3D the movie, matches the 3D of the trailer.

I just looked on the Best Buy webpage to see if there were any additional specs on the pre-order and noticed this "Marvel's The Avengers - 4-Disc BD Combo Pack (3D BD+2D BD+DVD+Digital Copy)", which makes me disappointed already. I was hoping for a 3D disc and a 2D disc, just wondering what everybody thinks about this?

That is a 3d disc and a 2d disc, just like every other Disney 3d release.

I don't know if you're concerned about price, but you're getting a 3D and 2D disc anyways. You're basically getting the DVD and Digital Copy for free, since the 3D combo pack is only $5 more than the 2D version. A 3D disc on its own can sell for $20, and if you really don't want the DVD and Digital Copy you could sell them on eBay for $10 each easily.

If you're referring to the UK set that's been discussed over in the deals section for around 50 dollars shipped, then none of the 3D discs are included even for the ones that were released in 3D. If you're referring to the US boxed set, then the movies that were released in 3D will include the 3D discs.

Either way, neither box set will have ALL of the films in 3D.

i'm hoping that despite this being a converted 3D film, the quality stands up a lot better with Disney handling the disk release as the movies so far from Phase I in 3D have been panned in reviews on the site here.

Thanks for the trailer.

I remember a lot more to this thread, but it's MIA.
A big portion of the posts have disappeared with that site crash not too long ago. Luckily data was saved from about mid April 2012. The month of May and mid June posts have disappeared completely for the forum.

AVENGERS 3D:
So to update what was unfortunately lost, Avengers 3D had some really nice 3D to it, especially the big Act III, for a conversion. Not as strong as the 3D trailer for the rest of the movie, but this is a must buy for 3D. I wonder if the CGI was rendered 3D and combined with 2D to 3D humans, making it a hybrid 3D conversion instead of a straight 2D to 3D conversion?

There also was a $5 deal for amazon listed here, but that deal is probably long over by now, way back in May 2012 it was posted here.

BOX OFFICE: First 2 weeks, it hit the Billion dollar mark.

I wonder if there's going to be any Canadian retailers who will carry this "90 minutes of exclusive footage"

I'm still holding on to my Amazon pre order since it's the cheapest that I've seen it up North.

That is a good deal. Target also offered Terminator Salvation Directors Cut back in the day, the only store to offer it at that time.

90 minutes is a lot. Best Buy's John Carter 3D bonus content I heard wasn't that great for the extra price of $5 at 29.99 opening day.

Hopefully, Target won't charge $5 extra over the competitors, and if that's the case, I'd consider it, but honestly, I'm not a huge fan of extras unless it's a really good documentary for 90 minutes.

Thanks for posting the info.
