This has gotten a somewhat luke warm response from critics.
Sucks. This was probably the summer film I was most excited about. Now my excitement to see this has dwindled a bit...I'm not paying attention to reviews anymore. Critics just spoil all the fun.

I saw it last night in IMAX digital 3D (aka Liemax) and I thought it was incredible, visually and as a film. Glad I preordered and got the $10 movie ticket!

Most beautiful movie I've ever seen, and though the plot had holes in it I thought it was fascinating and couldn't stop thinking about it when I got home. Definitely day one for me.

I tend to listen more to people on threads like this than to critics. I've learned that what I like and what the critics like don't usually match up.

Hate to be that one guy, but I was disappointed overall with this movie. Spoiler tag for reasoning, just as a precaution:
[Show spoiler]The first half slugged around, most of the action or scary scenes were over too quick or when there were supposed to be tense scenes, the actors didn't act like they were in any real danger, IMO; David being the only one having the excuse not to. The second half, however did pick up and saved the movie for me, especially the final shot, but I still felt like many answers were left hanging around- yes one could argue we learned exactly what the scientists Shaw and them did, and she went looking for more, but still thought it was really lazy and bad writing- but the rest was done great; set pieces, CGI, Michael Fassbender's performance, along with a few others and the aliens looked awesome! Overall, I'd give it a 3.5/5, which is still good rating for a film, I guess I expected as much as you guys, but just left with less enjoyment than I wanted to.

God, this movie was good, slow-paced but epic and satisfying. People keep moaning about the script and characterization, but Lindelof has never been one to provide answers, instead leaving them to warrant discussion. That allows Prometheus to be remembered forever, rather than just in the moment of its release. As for the characterization, were Alien's characters all that interesting, other than Ripley or Ash? Shaw was well-done as a woman with faith, David was riveting, and even Holloway had his moments. Prometheus probably wasn't as good as Alien or Aliens, but it's definitely a damn near sight better than 3, Resurrection, or the AVP movies. Day 1 buy.

Critics said the same thing about Alien in 1979...and really...they were right. It's a science fiction movie, not a character drama. It's more interested in visuals and visceral thrills than melodrama.

I think they def wanted to create another franchise or prequel series, depending on how well it does at the box office, so I wouldn't have any expectations of the film resolving anything when I see it.

I agree with most things you're saying, i did enjoy it though. I really believe the dc might make a difference though, at least i hope it does.

That's funny, I liked the first half, then hated how ridiculous it became. No suspense, no horror, no action...
[Show spoiler]really bad pacing (every "conflict" was brought up them resolved in the next scene, and nothing had any effect on the characters... you'd think after being impregnated with an alien, Rapace would show some kinds of emotion, but by the next scene it's forgotten)... just horrendous writing all around. Maybe if the film decided what ti wanted to be, but it has ZERO clue. 1.5/5 (and only a half star for Fassbender's performance)

With this movie, I think it's a good idea to see it and make up your own mind. Some are hating it and some are loving it. And even if the story doesn't work for you, the visuals make this something you want to see on a big screen.

I wanted to like this movie but did not. A huge letdown for me. So many things I found wrong. The visual was great, but not a buy for me.

I don't like 3D movies but I thought this 3D was really well done. The tech was used to make the experience more immersive and there were no stupid gimmick shots (things flying at the viewer, etc.). I would say the 3D version is worth the extra $5 if you like the format.

Love Ridley, but to be honest, I thought the visuals were a letdown as well. The 3-D seemed to hold him back. It didn't have any of the atmosphere of the original Alien, Blade Runner, even legend... it didn't feel like a Ridley Scott film to me.

But again, the problem is when people say just that... if the story doesn't work, the visual look neat. That's exactly WHY we have so many bad movies these days... people are content with awful stories as long as they look "pretty". When junk like that makes money, it just opens the door for 5 more like it.

PROMETHEUS didn't have atmosphere like ALIEN...? I wonder if I saw a different PROMETHEUS, then -- sure had some very ALIEN atmospherics when I saw it.

One thing to remember is that Scott isn't the same filmmaker he was in 1978-79. He's made a lot of different types of movies and doesn't have to prove himself any longer. Although, an argument could be made he had a lot to prove with PROMETHEUS (which I think is his best movie since BLADE RUNNER). And I'd say most of his movies aren't exactly known for their stories. In fact, he's always been known for his visuals.

Default prometheus aliens blu ray ray box set

with all the buzz around Prometheus in theaters and low price of the trilogy on blu ray i was thinking why, are they planning to do a cool new box set after the movie is released on blu ray or will there be a Prometheus sequel and thats when they will do it well to be honest with you i hate when sequels just go on and on and i wish all do like the hobbit the movie is not out yet and they announced 2 movie ONLY i do want to watch more but less sequels means more creative and full of story line
