That.

Only difference is that I won't be buying this one. Was severely underwhelmed by the 3-D, and won't pay for it again beyond the rather expensive IMAX 3-D ticket I already purchased. Bait had a heck of a lot better 3-D than this, which makes me sad.

Surprised not to see this discussed here (or mentioned, but maybe I missed it).
Some copies of the 3D release of this title are redeeming as 3D digital copies via Vudu. Apparently it does so if you look up Amazing Spider-Man 3D on Vudu when you click on "redeem Ultraviolet Digital Copy" (as opposed to selecting the 2D or redeeming through Sony or Flixster).
People are having kind of random variance with the redemption (people wanting 2D but getting 3D, and visa versa), but the 3D Vudu codes for this are out there. I'm happy because as soon as Vudu gets their Android app off the ground, I'm hoping I'll be able to watch this (and Tangled Ever After) anywhere I want in 3D.
But for now, it is interesting to see them take this step.

There is no good reason within the story for those scenes to look so abnormally flat.

Very fun movie and great action 3D experience, but there's lots of wasted potential here due to the producers' strange preference for flat non-action 3D. The majority of premium-paying, glasses-wearing 3D audiences want objects with appropriate 3D dimensionality in 100% of scenes and do not enjoy 3D that dips below "noticeable."

I loved the overall experience in IMAX and will buy the $28 SteelBook on 11/9, but it's still disappointing that Spider-man is not the 3D masterpiece that it easily could and should have been.
I couldnt agree with you more....great analogy!

You get it.

Minor correction or clarification though, unless of course you were using the term ‘producers’ generically.

The 3D shooting template for this motion picture was developed by the Director, the Director of Photography and the 3D supervisor. Whether this team represented an equal collaboration/democratization or a dictatorship, I would doubt that the involved participants are honestly owning up to the importance of their specific input, especially after theatrical reviews like this appeared on the web…
http://www.cinemablend.com/new/3D-Or...ket-31690.html ---possible, but doubtful.

The first and second unit stereographers simply made it happen, i.e. *turned the knobs* to implement the 3D vision, as previously mandated/prescribed.

Just got this on 3D Blu-ray, I have been waiting on it since I watched it in the cinema.

I'm gonna watch it on my HMZ-T1 tonight if I'm not tired.

Thanks for the correction!

I read some of the stereographer's comments elsewhere, and he respectfully mentioned something generic about parallax settings being pre-determined and later approved by "production," and that the people footing the $200,000 budget get to decide what the 3D looks like.

Far superior to Goosebumps in movie quality or 3D quality? Have not gotten around to watching that yet.

Both but I was referring to the 3D really, Goosebumps is very flat IMO whereas despite ASM getting a lot of slack for its 3D, I think it's way better than Goosebumps.

Revisited this yesterday. After having watched a bunch of MCU movies recently, this seemed especially mild, moreso than I remembered. It's a shame this doesn't have a 3D presentation more akin to the sequel.

I hope one day they post convert the 2D version with stronger 3D than the native.

Rewatched this at the weekend, i really love the movie (moreso now than when i posted some of my above comments it seems) and this is one of my favourite comic book movies.

Now it is almost 10 years old it actually made me feel a little nostalgic when i rewatched it lol. 2012 was such an exciting time for the developing 3D blu ray market, even if this movie isn't an amazing (heh) example of 3D itself.

I've always enjoyed the 3D and it's really nice during the action sequences especially. I think i do prefer superhero/ comic book action scenes at night at both ASM movies have plenty of great nocturnal action sequences.

I think the 3D in this is underrated. It’s not amazing (lol) but it’s better than something properly flat like Shazam. It adds plenty to justify its existence! Helps that the movie is good too, it’s a little too corny at times but a solid Spidey film.

Shazam’s 3D doesn’t appear “flat” in my set-up and I’m sure most would not describe the 3D in Amazing Spiderman and superior to Shazam! The former is a relatively dark film with muted 3D effects whereas Shazam has relatively bright scenes and 3D effects that are at least as strong.

I don't think so, but has there been a 2-pack of both Amazing Spider-Man movies in 3D?

I watched this on Christmas Eve with pizza. I saw it and the sequel in 3D in the theaters. The Marvel movies and the Sony games have made me a Spider-man fan though. So now I own all the MCU movies with Spider-man in 3D and now these 2 reboot movies in 3D, plus the Spider-verse ones, and I just have get physical versions of the Maguire movies at some point. I remember liking this movie and the sequel more, but upon watching it now I didn't think it was as good as I remember. It does feature the lizard villain which is one of the bads in the recent game so it was kind of cool to see that. And Emma Stone was incredible as Gwen Stacy. Garfield does a decent job job as Spidey but Holland definitely think portrays Peter Parker better. So not as good as I remember but it's decent enough to watch once anyway.

The 3D was really frustrating, in that it spans the gamut from weak to nonexistent all the way to medium strong. Fortunately it's in the set piece scenes when it's most important that the 3D is the best. Part of it I think is that it's native 3D and not converted, which is better in some sense, but I like strong. There are a handful of cool popouts too. It's clear from the specials the director put a lot of thought and effort into the 3D in this movie. And there are a few scenes that are specifically designed to show 3D, a holographic scene and then a couple with Spidey swinging where we see things from his perspective. In the specials on the 3D dic there's actually a feature where you can adjust the strength of the 3D in these scenes with the angle button. I think that's the only time I've seen the angle button used on a blu-ray, ever. Anyway, the 3D definitely adds something here but also not anywhere near as good as the MCU Spider-mans.

There's a couple specials on the 3D disc (in 3D) but most of the specials are on the special features disc. All discs are thankfully region free. On the specials disc there's an hour and 50 minute documentary, wow! I watched it in the background while doing other things. This is really in depth an there are lots of interviews with the director and all of the cast. Several segments on handling the CGI and also some on the 3D. Then there are 20 minutes of deleted/extended scenes. The highlight for me here is there's a cut scene with Zoey Deutch. I was like what, she wasn't in this, did I miss it? Well her only scene was cut apparently lol. I found an interview of her reacting to seeing it for the first time. Then there are a handful of shorter specials an behind the scenes stuff. So there's a lot there. I kind of hope Part 2 doesn't have as many because that was a lot. Anyway I imagine most already picked this up but if you haven't and are looking for something else in 3D this is pretty good but be ready for the 3D to be really weak sometimes. I'll be watching the sequel soon.
