I'm starting to wonder if we have some fanbois posing...of course, I have no evidence of that, but I'm just stating a feeling.
As I said above, and I'm sure many agree, I'm not going to inconvenience myself for the sake of numbers that will have little to no impact on the big picture. I was at Best Buy today, I bought movies. There's no way I'm going to look at something I want to buy, leave, and come back to the same place to buy the same thing a day later.

I think a lot of people are getting carried away with how much (or how little) this will play in the big picture.

I predict a fierce opposition from the Transformers crowds come Tuesday morning.

The problem is joe 6 pack doesn't know anything about the Nielsen ratings. They look at their new weekly flyer for Best Buy, etc, come Friday, Saturday, and decide to drop in and make their purchases at that time when they most likely are on their days off. So if Disney really wanted this to go up against Transformers, they somehow would have needed the promotion to start on Monday.

Hey, every little bit helps, friend, and it appears those purchases you made didn't help the cause of this week--I'm sad to hear that. However, I do understand that the sales of Transformers HD DUD will be extremely high...it has been close to the top of all DVD sales, not just Hi-def, since it debuted to be pre-ordered. When I heard about so many different BOGO, there was some hope that the numbers would look better than what was expected this week. But with lots of people buying early, that outlook is going down the drain in a hurry.

Honestly, I think TOTAL BD sales matter a whole lot more to the studios than whether or not HD-DVD wins one week or not. The Transformers week numbers aren't worth anything more than bragging rights.

when amazon has blu winning, nielsen follows amazon. when amazon has hd dvd winning, nielsen doesn't follow amazon. this is because blu-ray has won every week this year, where some weeks on amazon hd dvd has appeared to be the leader for a short time.

One week out the last 53 isn't that big of a deal.

Which is reason enough to have numbers go more in favor of our side, because those bragging rights brings on more FUD from the HD DUDs.

A bit dramatic . . . HD-DVD doesn't have another worthwhile release for the rest of the year.

Guess what, movies bought on sunday count ! Amazon does not process nor ship orders on weekend. That means all the order you see will go out on Monday and they can't charge you CC till they are ready to ship so the charge will also be on Monday.

Would you have inconvenienced yourself if there was no sale at all? This is quite a populist statement you made above.

The fact is that Disney has pulled off a gigantic sale to promote the format (in addition to the summer 5 Free BR sale, and in addition to the Disney trailer) and I don't believe someone like you who is obviously in the know as to what is at stake here is making a point against the company's effort.

That's all.

It wasn't an inconvenience because I was already there . . . and if Disney is focused on Nielsen ratings, then they should make the sale effective on new release Tuesday. Problem solved.

The company's effort is to sell discs. Period. That's what they're doing.

It is a VERY BIG deal!!

A win for the Blu camp against the marquee HDDVD title for which Toshiba spent 150 mil (it is not Shrek) will have a resounding effect in Hollywood. A win will also send to Paramount the loudest possible message you could imagine.

And you better believe that I am not talking science fiction here as I was part of the industry not too long ago.

plus best buy is having a $14.99 sale going on and for best buy who can pass that up and sure maybe 1 person wouldnt make much of a difference with these sales going on but the big picture is people buying the movies and if we let enough people know about these sales going on then more people will buy them for the cheaper price and that adds numbers and with the disney offer you could buy 2 get 2 free and thats enough for 1 Transformers Hd-Dvd

LOL...made you start thinking, though.

And I noticed that you didn't have much to come back with. Now, I will give them that they do have Shrek 3, which was another hope of their camp. And I know Blu has enough to beat it that week, but many children will be wanting that title and the HD DUD camp was hoping two things this year with PM/DW acquisition...that they'd get people to buy their players because of Transformers and Shrek 3. We'll see at the end of this week and the week of Shrek 3 if they will get what they want. Don't know where all that came from, but anyway.

And so be it. This is a free country after all. I just believe that the community we all belong to, with a clear goal in sight, should act in a more mature manner, producing results.

It's a business . . . nobody's going to look at one release from one week out of an entire year and say, "Wow, things are really turning around here!" Paramount is under contract, which they won't break. They have their money, and whatever "message" anybody sends will fall on deaf ears.

Surely the one studio we all are concerned with, WB, is defying your logic. They have been spending quite a bit of time highlighting their 300 success amidst monitoring the rest of the market (come Q4).

blu-ray has won the nielsen numbers every week this year. therefore when blu-ray is winning on amazon, the amazon numbers are consistant with the rest of the market, however when hd dvd is winning on amazon, the amazon numbers are not consistant with the rest of the market (due to the fact that blu-ray has outsold hd dvd every week this year according to nielsen). hd dvd fanboys like to point to amazon a lot, whenever hd dvd is winning, however everytime they do this, hd dvd always losses the nielsen, thats why we say you can't use amazon as an indicator, becuase amazon is wrong sometimes (whenever hd dvd is winning, and only when hd dvd is winning) thats what i was trying to say.
