My last 5 orders have come via courier to the door, and haven't been trackable via Canada Post, I know all about that partner delivery number, and used to use it all the time. Now it's one that no one can figure out to track. These courier folk don't even knock, they just dump them on the doorstep. I'm not impressed. My copy of The 39 Steps is currently MIA, as DHL haven't updated the status since the 28th of June.

I have no problem tracking amazon.com orders from DHL.

The delivery partner (so far) has always been either Canada Post or Canpar. Recently, Canpar is far more common (last 4 or 5 amazon.com orders have been handed off to Canpar for local delivery).

I just take the delivery partner's number and load it into either Canada Post and/or Canpar...if it doesn't register with one, it registers in the other. But that number doesn't become active until DHL hands it off to the local delivery partner so I just check it every day until it shows up in the the system (again...almost always Canpar recently). I always know when a package is about to be delivered. I do admit that notice is often very short...it might not show in the delivery partner system until the night before delivery...but it always shows up.

As for just leaving the package without knocking...it's 50/50 with me. Sometimes they knock, sometimes they don't.

I can understand your frustration with the gap in DHL's tracking information. Once the item hits Secaucus the info seems to halt until Canada Post (in my case) gets it in Mississauga. Maybe that is due to Canada Customs? Anyway, my copy of The 39 Steps arrived today.

Here is my tracking into for comparison:
DHL:
Date Time Location Activity
7/4/2012 08:25 PM MISSISSAUGA ON PROCESSED SORT FACILITY
6/28/2012 11:59 PM ET Secaucus, NJ PROCESSING COMPLETED AT ORIGIN
6/28/2012 12:54 PM ET Secaucus, NJ PROCESSED
6/28/2012 11:45 AM ET Secaucus, NJ ARRIVAL ORIGIN DHL GLOBAL MAIL FACILITY

Canada Post:
Date Time Location Description
2012/07/05 08:33 ETOBICOKE Item successfully delivered
2012/07/05 05:09 ETOBICOKE Item processed at local delivery facility
2012/07/04 20:25 MISSISSAUGA Item processed at postal facility
2012/06/28 10:07 MISSISSAUGA Order information received by Canada Post

For lack of a better thread to ask this in, here's an over 10 year bump :P

I just ordered a bluray from Declutter on Ebay that was about $18US ($22CD) with shipping at $4US.

I had no idea how they were going to send it but with my notice today it said DHL, which I wasn't familiar with so I googled. That search took me to a lot of posts about people saying they were charged hefty fees/etc. from this company . . . which kind of defeats the purpose of purchasing used to save $$$.

So, for something that's going to ring up at $18US shipped should I be worried this is going to be held up by DHL etc or should everything be copacetic.

(Checking my ebay history, does seem like I ordered from Declutter once before but it was for a $12US disc back in 2020)

Thanks all.

If DHL does not hand it off to Canada post then DHL will charge you taxes no matter what even if its a 'gift'. The only question is how much the 'processing fee' and hidden fees they will charge.

If it is handed off to Canada post then you will most likely pay nothing if thats the value put on the package.

Humm...interesting. Here's hoping they hand off to Canada Post then. Tax probably wouldn't be that much. I'm more concerned about their extra fees. If too much I gather I could just deny and send it back to Declutter.

Actually, in double checking my order seems the $18US was the total including shipping. The item is only $13.99 US ($18.85CDN) so that should be fine unless there's something I'm missing regarding potential charges.

When I order from Criterion DHL hands off to Canada Post and charges me huge processing fees every time. I'm actually convinced they purposely get everything flagged by customs so they can charge service fees.
