Good question; honestly, I'm not sure. Seeing as Android can be updated with later builds on some tablets, Microsoft may follow suit, but because the mobile OS code is proprietary (rather than an open-source platform like Android), Microsoft will (more than likely) charge their users an upgrade fee of some sort to do so. Of course, with a laptop, you can always upgrade to another OS, even one that's not Microsoft-based.

I'm sure this will be addressed when Surface Pro is about to be released.

Quote:
After announcing its Surface tablets nearly four months ago, Microsoft has now unveiled the pricing for both of its ARM-based Surface RT tablets at its Microsoft online stores. The 10.6-inch Surface, powered by Windows RT, will go on sale on October 26th and will be priced starting at $499 for the 32GB version without Touch Cover and $599 for the 64GB model. A 32GB version will be offered for $599 with a Touch Cover included. The 9.3mm thin tablet weighs just 1.5lbs and includes a built-in kickstand and vapor-deposited (PVD) magnesium case.

Microsoft listed its Surface pricing at its online Microsoft Store this morning, indicating that pre-orders will be available shortly. Microsoft's advertizing campaign for its Surface devices has already kicked off, with Surface street art spotted in a number of US cities over the past few weeks. The software maker will hold a Surface reception event for press and analysts on October 25th, and some of the company's holiday pop-up stores will open at midnight on October 26th to start selling the tablets.

Maybe I'll trade on my (transformer pad infinity 32gb with keyboard) tablet for the Pro version. Since I rarely use it anyway.

If the Pro version is better than the Transformer Prime I currently use then I will seriously consider getting one.

Would have liked to get the Pro but my PDA thing through work was ending for the year and I hadn't used it yet so decided to use it on the 64GB. Pretty cool device what I played around with so far and different enough from Windows Phone 7 which I have too that I feel it was worth it unlike the iPad where I feel I would just be buying a bigger iPod Touch and I am bored as hell with iOS. Only cost me around $200 since we have to pay 30% of the price so if I decided I really needed the Pro I could always do that for this years PDA and pay less for both out of my money than this would have cost without that

Battery died while I was really stress testing it with solitaire So fully charging it before I get more time with it. Which is one of the things I have not liked so far since the charging cable really comes out easily with that weird connection it uses. Also gets warmer than I find ideal but at least the surface keyboard protects from that a fair bit. And that could just be that I have got so used to my Vita that I have never noticed get slightly warm.

I originally wanted the Surface Pro, but Staples had a BF deal on an RT for $250, that included the keyboard and MS Office. At that price it was a no-brainer purchase. I'm really liking it so far!
