I'm currently writing the review. I don't consider the video quality to be poor. The movie is what it is: cheap and frequently underlit. The extras are indeed different than what is listed on the back cover. I addressed the soundtrack issue in post #9 above.
Yeah, that sounds about right. I remember this movie as having one of the longest car chases in cinematic history.

That sucks that they won't include the original soundtrack. Why not give us a choice? I had the VHS a long time ago but sold it.

Look at the focus: it's set for the mid-ground. It appears that the problem isn't the mastering of the film, but the competency of the original DP.

Does this forum support a thumbnail option?
Yes it's absolutely unfair to say that the BD looks like crap and to take this screenshot as an example!
This shot has always been out of focus.

As for the other screenshot I found it pretty good. It's probably the best this movie will ever look on BD if you take into account the kind of amateurish crew who shot it

I'm looking forward to read a full review about this.
With screenshots if possible.
It's really too bad about the soundtrack 'though.
The so-called remastered audio track is one of the ugliest I've listened to... ever! It ruins the atmosphere completely. Not that the film is good, but still it deserves better than this soup.

I can't believe that this classic is finally getting a release. I remember watching the original back in the 70's when it was released and it had been one of my dad's (may he rest in peace) favorite movies ... it's still remains one of my favorites.

That chase, which is the longest chase in Hollywood cinema, is still talked about to this very day and this is the film that everyone remembers, not that bastardized (pardon my language) piece of crap that starred Nicholas Cage. This was cinema was all about. The biggest draw for the film though, was theft of O.J. Simpsons car in the film (at least, I think it was).

I just cannot believe this wonderful classic is finally coming to Blu-ray. I hope the quality of this film on Blu-ray is worth it.

I have this on DVD & it is a excellent film, it is well worth picking up, not sure about the blu-ray quality as i have not seen it, but you shouldn't dismiss a very good film because the image/audio may not be 100%.

Excited about this purchase. $7.99 at Beat Buy after the Upgrade and Save coupon was applied. A blind buy, but I am sure I will enjoy it .

For me the audio is a deal breaker much as I really love this film and saw it multiple times upon it's original release here in England as a teenager BUT not only is it not DTS-MA not even full bitrate DTS but only half bit rate 765 dts of the awful muzak dirge dub DVD soundtrack.

Micheal also the end credits have been changed as well. It does not freeze in the original but keeps rolling and stays with the lowrider till the end of the credits as they all get out of the over heated car...

I have the DVD and that's enough until if ever this film gets a proper release.

Shame...

You should really check this movie out ... it's one of the rare treasures that came out of the 70's.

I really do agree with that - shame it's had a "George Lucas" done on it

Well, not really. George Lucas didn't go back and remake the entire film, he just added new scenes to his movie trilogy. With Gone in Sixty Seconds, they completely remade the film.

I just can't wait to get this original classic. Gone in 60 Seconds, the original 1974 film, is a movie that deserves, or should I say, should be a required film for everyone's collection. It's truly a classic, much in the lines of American Graffiti and Bullitt. These are American Classics and I'd definitely like to see a fully digitized restore version of the film.

I'm not talking about the very poor remake with NC but about the 1974 original which now has a different soundtrack and a new ending

Just how much of a movie can be changed before you finally can't accept it?

I plan on picking up this movie and Bullitt from Best Buy tomorrow (last day of U&S promo). Having never seen the original Gone In 60 Seconds, the changes will be lost on me so I feel it'll be worth my $7.99.

Good point. I am not one for revisionism, but this was a blind buy for me.
