The "Breakfast Club" poster was funny at the time of its release, but now it's just a very dated reference that wouldn't make a whole lot of sense on a modern video box.

This has been shaping up to be a big year for fans of horror on high-def. So man great catalogue releases! And I too would love to see a release of The Burning!

Sure is going to be a poor autumn...

That was a (awful quality) deleted scene extra on the old Elite laserdisc.

I could be wrong, of course. Just don't remember an extended cut being released.
No, I don't think there was a different cut of the film ever made, but I have read around the net that there were scenes that is missing from the DVD. I can't vouch for the credibility of the rumors though. But yes, I have seen the scene in the bonus section of the DVD, and I thought that it was in the old VHS I had (which was terrible quality anyways), but now I'm beginning to doubt myself.

Yes, the scene is terrible quality, like a 7th generation VHS tape. Maybe I'm mixing things up here, but I seem to remember that Hooper saying that he would like to release a different version (probably a director's cut or a complete version), but the footage is lost. The scene on the LD was probably the only copy of the scene that they had. Not saying this like it's gospel though, but the documentary on one of the DVDs (believe it's the UK Anchor Bay DVD) has interviews with both Hooper and Jeff Burr, the director of Texas III. Burr mentions that the studio basically cut chunks out of the film themselves (for a lower rating), and very much of the footage is lost, making it impossible to make any sort of extended cut of the film. The version on DVD is the longest official release. There's a workprint of Texas III with longer/alternative takes in existence, but again, it's terrible quality.

Oh well, let's just be happy that we get Texas II on Blu-Ray, and here's to hoping that we get Texas III as well.

After I did some digging, I found out that the VHS I had was the workprint. Comparison here - http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=943

You'd have to be a real fan of the movie to watch this. Yikes!

This is the one film in the franchise I've never seen, despite owning the DVD for a number of years. Will probably pick this up when I've finished the "Halloween" marathon I have planned in October.

It is quite different than part I and III (haven't seen IV). Black humor galore and gory as hell.

WOW, you ranked the remake #2? very interesting observation.....I would have ranked, in my own personal opinion...

*TCM 74
*TCM 2 (because Bill Mosely shines in this fillm plus the gore in this movie was solid)
*TCM 3 (this was actually the 1st TCM movie I saw back in the 80s when I 1st got into horror, plus Ken Foree is in this one, huge DOTD fan here, sentimental reasons why this get ranked #3)
TCM TB (I ranked this one higher than the remake, thought the store of LF was done well considering it was a prequel to the remake)
TCM remake (I didnt care for Jessica Biel in the film plus the hitchiker scene where the girl shoots herself in the car was a letdown for me)
TCM TNG (dang, you'd think this would be better with Matthew M and Renee Z in it, but the ball was dropped here)

Come Jan 2013, TCM 3d which is going to be the "true" sequel to the 74 classic, lots of cameos from the stars from 1 and 2, I hope this is a good one, I really do.....

Since the 40th Anniversary isn't for another two years, you might be waiting awhile for an official announcement...
